On History Television. Anybody else been watching this for the past week or two? Tora Tora Tora was on last week, last night was Iwo Jima, a few hours ago was General Groves, the Kamikaze segment is just about to end, we're about to move onto chemical warfare (planes dropping fleas onto towns, ooh)... lots of fun. The programming is very pro-Japan. They've endeared themselves to us during the past 60 years through their great electronics, hentai, video games, etc.
...
I joke and I kid and I include references to anime sex, but the Kamikaze episode was very moving. I need a hug.

on a related note - have you played any WWII shooters?
I played the demos of "call of duty" recently and thought they were very impressive. but I also get an awkward feeling from games like these - you know, turning a horrific war into a computer game.
I had it even more when I played "battlefield: vietnam" a few years back. it just feels kind of.. wrong.
and - goddamnit - here's your hug..

OMG *blushes, slowly guides your hand towards my crotch
Yeah, Call of Duty is a rock solid shooter. I was playing Brothers in Arms for Xbox just a couple weeks ago, that's another excellent game, great storytelling and presentation, maybe the best I've seen in a WWII game. I'm going to buy it as soon as I get some cash, can't wait to finish it.
But yeah, there's a weird morbidity I feel when I play these games... they try not to be exploitative but it's a fucking GAME, even if the intent to glorify it isn't there, it feels awkward killing scores of namless cannon fodder Japs and Krauts. It's not a good feeling. The EA Medal of Honor games in particular are bad for this, it's so arcadey, you're a killing machine. They're not bad shooters but WWII makes a weird setting for a standard one-guy-versus-an-army game. The squad based tactical games like BIArms feel better.

Haven't they already made some kind of Iraq/US war video game already?
They mustn't mind the idea of people and soldiers spinning in freshly-dug graves.

aside from what you mentioned, they're all gay, boring and have 99% similar story and gameplay.
