I am totally intruiged by Sun Ra, and i would love to know
a good starting point to listen to the music him and his
Orkestra have created. I know he has released loads of
albums, but i was wondering if there is a definitive one.

Thanks for your help :)

I began with Space is the Place, and even if you ultimately
don't dig it, it has "Rocket Number Nine" on there.

Try the Heliocentric stuff. Quite hard to find his records
mind you.

In Foyles in London there is a Jazz Café with his stuff. I
was quite pleased to find it.

I heard that was a good album, thatne.

I missed you, bill_hicks.

i'd say ATLANTIS is the best starting point. it's not that
jazzish, it's sun ra style and that's it. (and it's sampled
on america's most blunted by madvillain).

his work with the funcadelics is pretty good too
lanquidity is his most plain jazz album. its a good start
and then work it all the way to calling planet earth
