I have 2 partions on my HD C and D.
C drive xp was being all gay (D drive was being used for samples) so i reinstalled XP on D: (which was formatted)
Now i have 2 xps running on each drive. D drive xp works finey doo but now i want to get rid of C drive partion, format it and let it become a sample space, like D drive was before.
I've tried fdisk and disk management thingie, but just before it gets to the end of formating it says it cant be completed.
Ive also tried the XP disk (i dont care if i have to reformat everything) booting up from the new xp on D drive , but when i want to delete C drive to create a new partion it goes all gay and says 'files are needed on this drive to complete installation' even though i started the set up on the new drive.
i just want to format c drive.
why is windows so gay
im going to get a mac. no im not who am i kidding

Did you install the second XP (on drive D) as a dual-boot system, or did you switch round the drives?

If he's using a dual boot install and he removes the install on the C drive he'll stop the D drive one working.

He doesn't seem bothered about losing D.
If losing D is not a problem then you can just boot from the Windows install CD and when it comes up with the partition info delete both the existing ones and start fresh.

Good point. And good idea. Though if he's using D for other stuff (samples) he might just want to delete unwanted folders on D after re-partitioning drive C only.

He downloaded a cracked version of Partition Magic...he'll be back in three months once he has saved enough money for a new hard drive. :)

Then just do what ecnadniarb said. Boot from the XP install CD and use that to delete, re-create and then install on a new partition on drive C.

Aaaaah! Then you can't remove the C partition. You can only reformat it. If you don't want any data on any drive, just boot from the CD, and remove all partitions. Then recreate any you want and format and install on C

Windows won't let you format C and have an install on a partitioned D because it puts some of the system stuff on C even when you have the bulk installed on D...such are the joys of Windows. A total removal of partition information, reformat of the entire disk and reinstall is the only way to go (baby)

That's very true. Homosexuality in an OS cannot be cured. You can probably petition Microsoft for a patch though. If it was Linux you'd be screwed. It'd be rotten through to its kernel.
