Me and my mate both have our own music tastes, and they are slightly different.
I am mmore open minded than he is, as he basically only listens to metal.. whereas i'm more interested in electronic/heavy rock and anything else that i enjoy ( from pop-some- to orchestra )
He does like some other things, like rock and some electronic.. but it just confuses me how someone can be so closed minded to other music genres.
The other topic made me think about this and i saw a lot of people saying how they like a lot of other stuff to so it got me thinking about it.
perhaps his mood is naturally quite brutal inwhich he has to listen to heavy metal to express his feelings - which doesn't bother me, but it makes me wonder. ( since the stuff he listens to is very heavy, e.g... american head charge, Black Label Society) Don't get me wrong i like metal, but i couldn't listen to it all the time..
thanks for reading.

Nah, i was just wondering if you guys had any feelings on this subject.. e.g. " in my personal experince, a few people i know listen to one genre too, perhaps these people just love this genre so much they decide to listen to it than any other genre "

I think all people like many different styles. The fact is (like you said) people tend to close their mind to other music then they're used too. Also, there is a variaty to choose from nowadays.
What if we only had Jazz and Metal? Then there were a lot more people who liked these genres.
Our daily environment like friends, fashion, media and the influence from our childhood are a decisive factor.

Yeah, im just greatful the internet had opened my mind up to other genres.. my child hood enviroment towards music didn't stretch very much.. i had the smurfs go pop tape, then i bought run dmx, then my brother gave me metallica. Then i heard some prodigy and apollo 440.

if you listen to stuff like that, i'd wager the mood isn't really "brutal", more like 13 years old and into ninja turtles... is your mate in a coma or vegetative state? because that would explain why somebody would want to listen to those bands.

It's funny, isn't, different music and stuff? There's like, y'know, different styles. Some people listen to all sorts, and some only listen to a few, or even one!!!! I am very brainy and cultured, whereas my mate Dave is a plank. I'm good whereas he flounders in his own effluent, AND HE DOESN'T EVEN REALISE IT!!! Aphex Twin does good music, my mate Dave only likes "Come to Daddy", but that's only cause it sounds like Heavy Metal. He just doesn't "get" complex tracks like Vordoboshin or Metalface off of Druqks. That's so sad. I will tell him later what all you people think about him, now that I've talked about him on the Internet.

Play him Ventolin, that's the most metal Aphex...
I have found that most metal heads are quite placid creatures, living in basements playing d&D and masturbating endlessly over Magic cards

Why can't people learn to get along? Music is a subjective thing, thus you can't criticise sombody for liking somthing different than you. Music is based at an emotional and volatile level. Attacking sombody's music tastes is like attacking their feelings. Plus most of the time (I find) no track is perfect and I'll listen to it only because it has qualities I like eg. some trance tracks I listen to have the most revoltingly pretentios singing but I put up with it because it has superior melodies.

jesus christ, some people on here are so sarcastic, saying that i dislike my friend because he listens to different music and that i think im superior.
shut up man, im not like that. this topic was a discussion based upon your feelings towards why people listen to their own stuff.
My mate likes come to daddy too because of the metal like sounding synth.
The interesting point i was trying to get at was that some people can tolerate different noises/sounds... I used to think music was boring when i'd hear a violin (because it would be classical and i'd just turn it off) but the internet has opene my mind up to lots of stuff - and as one guy pointed out that your music taste is influnced by your friends/enviroment etc... well it's nice to have a change and just go out to explore other music.
I never knew what idm was until i was 15 and downloaded the girl/boy song off kazaa lite.
