sigur ros - takk

he singing=his singing.

Múm are also quite good. I'd say that I like them equally
if not more than Sigur Rós. They've got a unique style.
Ampop, another Icelandic band, is getting pretty popular
here as well, and in the UK as well, I think. Their music
used to be pretty electronic but now they've become more of
a soft rock band with the use of some synths as well.

There are lots of relatively unknown Icelandic artists, of
whom some have never released anything, that are rather
good.

I think that people have some really big misconceptions
about the Icelandic music fauna/flora though. Foreigners
never get to hear the real crap that also gets released and,
unfortunately, played a lot :).

Thanks. I actually like the hopelandic thing quite a lot. I
read an interview that Jonsi said it just the babble he puts
in every song before they make up lyrics for it - if it was
actually a whole made up language I think that would be
pretty stupid. As I don't understand icelandic I suppose its
just slightly irritating that I'm missing out on a part of
the songs.

Apparently Takk tells a story to some extent, about somebody
losing the sun and searching for it, or something

What I've heard of Mum has been a bit forgettable but I'll
try to get an album of theirs sometime

I've heard a bit from Trabant who seem quite cool - not the
icy bjorkiness that people ignorantly expect from Iceland.

Yeah, I would have to find my copy of Takk and listen to it
again. I think that Heysátan (the haystack/heycock(?))
tells the story of an old man that lies down on the
haythingy to die.

I don't know...múm isn't necessarily better than sigur rós
but i really love some of their arrangements.

The hiddden people are for kids. Iceland has done well with
sigur ross and bjork.

Don't be a tit and ruin it.

Trabant are getting pretty popular around here. The frontman
of that band is quite a joker as well. The first time I
heard Nasty Boy I wondered what crap they were playing on
the radio this time but when I realised it was Trabant I had
a great laugh and now I kinda like it. I don't own the CD
but I've heard a few tracks on the radio and in some clubs.

Might have done well with Sigur Rós and Björk but has done
a real good job of maintaining a hype and a certain
stereotype of how an Icelandic music should sound like. I
hate that in every single foreign review I see about an
Icelandic band the word "Björk" (and sometime Sigur Rós)
is in it, even when there is no comparison to be made.

You know that 'Trabant' is a shit interpretation of
Britney. it's fun for a second.

Atli, stop obcessing over bjork. try something original

Trabant did a 'rural' version of Britney. Do you think it's
going to transfer?

i'm not obsessed over björk. i'm just a fan of truth, and
the truth being that the majority of music reviewers are
either unimaginative or know little about the icelandic
music scene.

they're joking. i'm glad you got it.

I heard some of the music stations when driving between
Reykjanes and Hafnafjordur (sorry for the spelling). I must
admit that it's same crap as everywhere, maybe a little bit
more of rock. The guy I used to travel with loved Rammstein
and actually didn't know Sigur Rós.
You should be happy that it's the good stuff that gets
publicity around the world.

That's cute. you have a 1/4 of a million for your
population. You don't have to diss bjork. The icelandic
'scene' is Reykjavik. 14 bands that are doing the same crap
everywhere.Trabant are fun but piss-takes are too time
specific.

Anyway, I'll be at Hornid, 'the corner' in english on the
30th. I'll either punch you out or we'll have a laugh in
Kaffi Barrin. I know it's shit but it's okay for a few..

i like living here and i like a lot of what i hear from
here. i'm not dissing björk. i like a lot of her stuff. i'm
dissing music critics and their ignorane and this
(icelandic) need to keep up some image about icelandic music
that isn't perfectly honest. if you were from around here
you might understand it. maybe my english vocabulary isn't
vast enough to describe what i'm trying to convey.

about half the population lives in reykjavík so it's not
strange that a lot comes from reykjavík. sigur rós doesn't
come from reykjavík, at least some of them. when i come to
think of it i don't think björk does either.

i'm not dissing icelandic music, i'm not dissing björk, i'm
not dissing sigur rós.

reviews of icelandic acts always seem to mention something
about vast windswept landscapes or something similarly
irrelevant
