Nihilism? Overrated teen age angst?

The problem with nihilism is the same as with Berkeley's
idealism: reality shock.
Once I get hungry or sick I'll beg for Mom, forgetting all
nihilistic principles.

:(

Nihilism does not exist. Negating every value ends with
negating life. You cannot negate life.

No, it's not negation. It's neither assertion nor negation.

[Chorus]
Now when you climb
Into your bed tonight
And when you lock
And hold the door
Just think of those
Out in the cold and dark
'Cause there is not enough love to go round

Now when you climb [fade]
And when you lock [fade]
Just think of those
out in the cold and dark
'Cause there is not enough love to go round.

[Maxi Jazz]
Until you wake up
You people need a shake up
You take up so much time
Worrying, Scurrying,
Here, there,
Losing your hear
No money to spare
No love to share
No wonder you appear under pressure from here
You look fresh, yeah
But all I got is dirt in my hear
My nightmares manifest,
But I can escape
Yours is in your chest
With no formal shape
The tape is running
I push the button to send
Upon each other we all depend
Message end

Whoever asks my name
Or where I came from
People fear contamination
If they chary too long
I carry a strong
Sin of despair
It's in the air
I¡¯m broken and hard to repair
I may mistaken be
But I patiently wait
On the pad to humanity
I sit at the gates

[Chorus]
Now when you climb
Into your bed tonight
And when you lock
And hold the door
Just think of those
Out in the cold and dark
'Cause there is not enough love to go round

Now when you climb
Into your bed tonight
And when you lock
And hold the door
Just think of those
Out in the cold and dark
'Cause there is not enough love to go round

[Maxi Jazz]
Dirty, Cold, Hurting, Soul,
Down the river
My liver in bad condition
Like my skin
Rain falling, once again
I'm in my bed
Hurt the time in
I'm gonna struggle for air
There's hair in my food
When I get it usually someone already half ate it
Touch it, not to let it
Get me down
But my head starting to pad
People go round, and round and round

From one I get a cigarette
A little more love found
But the ground is still wet
My chief are chattering
And there's a spattering of seeds
Sometimes I lose all feeling in my feet
When I sleep I'll do my deep in the mainstream
But unaccountabl

I wouldn't tar it with the same brush as idealism...

Problem is that it's a big presumption on our part to assume
that it's any less logical than the existance of an
objective reality which does exist independant of subjective
observation -> (Something which we only ever presume emerges
from objective matter because of the dominance of this
neo-platonism in current western "rationality"... In actual
fact, the only thing we can ever know directly is our own
awareness - Everything else is only known to us as a mental
construct, and could only have any sort of objective
existance if consciousness was innately connected to, or one
with, matter in some way - So why do we choose to paint
ourselves out of existance and then presume it's "rational"
to do so?)

If there is an objective reality it's just quantum foam...
Not meaning to sound nihilistic - This same substance
unfolds space, energy, matter, consciousness, art, music,
etc... If there wasn't meaning we shouldn't be able to
debate this topic.

imo nihilism is the only way to go - more like 'living with

I don't know why that statement is so popular because it's
bollocks.

I seem to believe I think therefore I posit that I may be.

You're right in strictly objective terms - Because we can't
see or quantify thought or consciousness objectively...

Then again, because our own personal existance is purely
defined by our awareness(/thoughts), we can't prove that
anything exists outside of subjectivity either...

So what's the weaker arguement???

The great renaissance philosopher Tommaso Campanella sums
this up: "the only trustworthy datum of experience is the
feeling of one's own existance, a feeling that withstands
any rational doubt."

"I" think therefore "I" am, defines "I" in terms of what the
universe knows about itself - The only parts of "I" which
have personal identity are the parts that fall under the
window of consciousness (/thought)...

Behaviours and brain function, or dysfunction, outside of
conscious control or awareness are as much detached from "I"
an I am from a random Israeli taxi driver on the other side
of the world...

So it stops us dealing with personal existance in strictly
biologica/material terms... Afterall, every atom in your
body is in constant exchange with the cosmos... In 7 years
time, not a single part of the physical "you" will be there
- It'll all be replaced... And if we were to put a limit on
the rate of replacement, we know we'd be imposing bizarre
subjective rules on personal existance...

Identity can only be defined through reference points
consciousness has about itself... If you were to download
your memory into someone else at your point of death,
there's no test, subjective or objective, to say that it's
not you jumping bodies...

Only our own subjective labelling system would argue with
that point - But what logic or reason would it have to back
that up???

Nihilist, me

I just not convinced of a fundamental need for a logical
framework, to say, have this discussion, or further, for our
perceived reality to exist. Where does this need come from?

This need for meaning, it's just the underpinning of
theology, deism(, and completely unfounded). Or maybe
deism, theology is more correct.
