Chiastic Slide, Amber... it's all good.

You might want to wait to get Confield, though... it's...
odd.

I currently own

amber, tri repetae, lp5, ep7, the peel sessions, confield

I think amber and lp5 are real killers... but i'm thinking
of completing my collection, which one to buy first?

whoo..look at all of you rush to this thread 6 posts in 30
seconds..am I correct in assuming that there are more people
here who are bigger autechre fans than aphex..just
curious...I mean I like autechre but RDJ is top o my list...

I actually dont even really like AFX... (runs for cover)

For me its all about Boards of Canada. Autechre is awesome
too, but Boards of Canada just has that something extra...

BoC's yet to impress me i am yet to hear any aspect that I
cant get satisfied by plaid or 2 lone swordsmen..am I just
deaf to what's incredibly unique about their sound?

offline Taoist Blockade from Wales on 2002-02-21 23:27 [#00096376]

I just like the feeling that comes through their sound, the
sort of melancholy hypnotic quality it has (for me anyway),
it just really strikes a chord. I used to love Plaid but
somehow it doesnt have much replay value for me. BoC's Music
has the right to children has been in steady rotation in my
discman for over two years now, it jsut always feels fresh
to me. I like more somber stuff though, like
Godspeedyoublackemperor, Set fire to flames etc...

Maybe start with something easy to take for Autechre like
EP7, LP5 or Amber... even Incanabula or some shit.... work
your way around from there.

EP7 is not exactly easy to begin with. :-)

Phobiazero::. you think so? I guess that you are correct
about that one, its just one of the ones I started on, but
oh well... LP5 is pretty easy to swallow.... especially
Amber.. heh.

i agree... hower LP5 also isn't very accessible, but i liked
it as soon as i heard it...

All Autechre's good, so I reckon the best way to approach it
is just to buy it in chronlogical order. Start with the
beautiful melodies and slowly ease into the incomprehensible
beats obscuring the beautiful melodies.
ie

Incunabula
Amber
Tri Repetae
Chiastic Slide
LP5
Confield

With the EPs, I reckon Envane, Cichlisuite then EP7. Peel
Sessions 1 and 2 are more for the fans.

To be honest, I think anyone plunging into Confield without
warming up on LP5 and EP7 would find it hard work.

I find LP5 extremely accessible and catchy..

"

imho pretty much all of Autechre is very nice, altho
sometimes am not entirely convinced with incunabula .. a few
hint in LP5 (corc/rae), EP7 and Confield is really where its
at for me?

offline Ubik from United States on 2002-02-22 02:48 [#00096741]

well, you will never come to any agreement, but Tri Repeatae
and LP5 seem to overall well respected and offer a good
overview of Autechre's musical style.

EP7 is dense as hell, it is strange that people slag off
Confield but not EP7 as much. my theory is that EP7 sounds
very complicated (complicated= genius to some), while the
random element of Confield sounds simple, lazy, and bad to
people at first, its amazing how many times i have read
somebody write that Confield is a bad joke to insult
Autechre's fans (what the hell sense would that make?).
then of course, some people like the happier sound of
Amber.... hell, just pick the one with the cover you like
best.

the one track on Gescom's album (dunno which exactly. one of
the motor's or viral rival) never heard such beautiful
thing, at the middle, the beat ends, and a insturment begins
to play, god it's a dream!! and the bass go's three tones
up, then to first down, one up and down and starts from the
beginning. can't stop listen that.
