haha, yeah right, i don't use aol. what is your general
perception of aol and it's function?

the company i work for does package and web design for them.
i can tell you that aol is full of turd nuggets. it's all a
bunch of fear-based marketing, getting poor old people to
use their service because they claim it is "safer" than
anything else.

acuall core system has been hacked so many time's its not
funny.

you've read the bug reports have you, or are you as i
suspect going on hearsay.? do you even know what "core
system" means or are you using posh words to try to sound
intelligent?

i have read bug reports on this software, and since i browse
a tech forum i've seen alot of people with problem's with it
posting for help.it appears to be a very shoddy peice of
work so why the hell would i use it?.and yes im using word's
i dont have a clue about to make myself seem KEWL!

raaaar!

from what i remember when i used it, back around version
4.0, it was just a jumbled mess of channels and links and i
don't even know what. from what i do at work (production
design), their interfaces and sense of style in general are
i guess well directed toward their main demographic, but i
don't see why anyone would continue to use this product.

Well, once, when I was trying to to get online to get the
drivers for my ADSL modem I, in a fit of insanity, used an
AOL CD to try and get on the net. Boy it sucked. Then the
fucker wouldn't uninstall correctly. It took over
everything!

yeah, unfortunately i've had to test those cds here. they
take forever and are confusing as hell. that reminds me, i
remember not being able to get rid of all sorts of hidden
files on my pc afterwards. they were there for YEARS! ok
maybe not years.

i used to use 2. something and i think i used it up to 4...
aol was always like that. it's useless technology. i agree
with you.

i feel pretty crappy about working for a company whose main
client is aol, but it's such an awesome place to work!

aol is the internet.

offline cupid_stunt on 2005-07-27 13:41 [#01676941]

ALL tech forums are full of people either complaining about
whatever the forum is related to it doesnt mean by
comparison AOL are any better or worse

if you want to compare someithng more sensible like
broadband speeds aol come in the top half and BT come in the
bottom quarter

as for the aol software, clearly it is geared towards users
unfamiliar with computer technology. so what? if it doesn't
suit your taste then use something else. i can't see why
it's any worse any other way. ifnfact, the aol email server
has one of the best spam filters, and considering how
popular aol is (therefore the bigger the comany the more the
problems anyway) it fairs quite well. and even if you use
aol as an isp you can still use IE6 (god forbid) or
netscape/firefox.

FACT: over 80% of hacking is via internet explorer exploits.
make your own mind up.

my thoughts exactly. it's insane how they claim that's what
they protect you against. amateur html skillz.

i've never used aol, but at my old job as a relay operator
for the deaf i wasted a hell of a lot of time on their
customer service lines. jesus christ aol guys are assholes.

yeah, My Moms one of those people who's like "Aol so safe!
no hack like you, Aya! You always on 'E', so shut up!"

"E" meaning the Internet explorer symbol, not Ecstacy.

mmmmmmmm ecstacy biscuits...

i work in tech support and i gotta tell you, it can be a
real bitch trying to troubleshoot through a relay operator..
and it usually blows your talk times (good scheduling and
raises go to those with low average talk times, and just one
relay call can ruin your daily stats). but, i know your job
sucks even more, so you have my sympathy ;p

"core system has been hacked so many time's its not
funny.
"

proof, please? seriously im lol'ing over here at the
comments.

but cunt is right; aol isn't geared towards enthusiasts;
it's geared towards noobs.

do YOU want to spend HOURS explaining to your parents how to
use email

do YOU want to get CALL AFTER CALL from them or other people
asking how you do this or how you do that

no

i want people to call me and tell me how much of the shit i
am, not how to log into their email account

i remember reading some article a while ago where someone
emailed a trojan to various employees at aol's network
operations center, and managed to infiltrate most of their
systems that way.. this was back before people knew not to
open attachments, i guess.

if i remember correctly, the kid was only 14. anyway, it's
definitely been done before.

here's some older hacks:

haha, ruined! yeah, we really don't talk to them though.

so i'm glad to hear both sides of this. i do realize that
aol must be doing something right if they can get a large
portion of new internet users to buy their product. it just
seems to me, from doing design work which is absolutely
geared towards purchase based on image & messaging, that
they try to scare people into using it. i honestly haven't
had any serious problems with my internets (safari,
previously ie), but that may be due to a better
understanding of the internet and how to use it.

i, thank god, no longer work as a relay operator, but
generally tech support people were pretty friendly and
patient despite the pain in the ass that a relay call was.
aol people would do anything to get rid of you without
listening to you at all and interrupting everything. most
times that i called, they would transfer me to the tty line!
wtf! i'm a person, i can't understand those beeps! hahaha.
oh man i'm glad i got out of that shithole.

time. the cheapest available without download restrictions i
think. need to do some research actually.

There's some new company coming out called BE or something
and they're planning to offer 24meg without restrictions for
25-30 quid a month. If that's for 24meg then 1 or 2 meg
should be well cheap.

sounds interesting. i can't find any broadband provider
called BE though - any idea on their actual name? :)
