I only like what has become known as Peter Greene's Fleetwood Mac back in the late sixties, is that the period you're all referring to? They were more of a rock group back then before the woman from Chicken Shack joined and Greene left. He was a brilliant guitarist and IMHO fourth only to Iommi, Hendrix and Blackmore - he had some amazing riffs up his sleeve.
Their rendition of Black Magic Woman is a personal favorite along with The Green Manalishi, Man of the World and of course Oh Well
Albatross is also really neat, it got me interested in ambient music for the first time :)

Sara
Wait a minute baby... Stay with me awhile Said you'd give me light But you never told be about the fire
Drowning in the sea of love Where everyone would love to drown And now it's gone It doesn't matter anymore When you build your house Call me home
And he was just like a great dark wing Within the wings of a storm I think I had met my match -- he was singing And undoing the laces Undoing the laces
Drowning in the sea of love Where everyone would love to drown And now it's gone It doesn't matter anymore When you build your house Call me home
Hold on The night is coming and the starling flew for days I'd stay home at night all the time I'd go anywhere, anywhere Ask me and I'm there because I care
Sara, you're the poet in my heart Never change, never stop And now it's gone It doesn't matter what for When you build your house I'll come by
Drowning in the sea of love Where everyone would love to drown And now it's gone It doesn't matter anymore When you build your house Call me home
All I ever wanted Was to know that you were dreaming (There's a heartbeat And it never really died)

I love Peter Greene's Fleetwood Mac. He was a talented blues guitarist, but he lost it in his later years, which is very sad. I also love the Nicks era Fleetwood Mac. Although the two are totally different.
some other classic american bands/musicians i love:
the grateful dead the byrds (YEA!) CCR CSNY niel young cat stevens velvet underground the beach boys
Seriously, The Byrds wrote some of the best 60s pop tunes ever.

Yeah, they were my Dad's music. As soon as I let go of that and really listened to them I realised how good they were. Steveies voice is really unique and wonderful. My fav female vocalist. I really like there pretty melodic stuff like gypsy , Sara, Say you love me, You make lovin fun, landslide. The bass and drum combo in that group is amazing. They are awesome. Just let go of that "it's my dad's music". Now, Phil Collins is also Dad music, but he still sucks.
