one of my friends has two of these.. he's very satisfied,
but I'm sceptical due to the pitch-lock.. it means that the
signal is being digitalized before it goes out, and sort of
takes away the meaning of vinyl.

if you're doing tricks, they're probably great, due to the
+/- 50% pitch, though...

The pitch lock only works on the digital output. On phono
(which I'll be using) it won't work. What did you think of
the start up speed?

ah, that makes it a whole lot better.. he used the digital
one, and I just assumed that was the only one...

start up speed was ok.. I think this has a higher
torque/engine power than the techs, but somehow I got a
feeling it's weaker.. that's probably just me, though.

If you get to a demo room before me let me know mate.
They sound good and I've heard good things.

Although someonehere mentions "there are well
documented issues with ttx
without actually saying
anything useful.

Exactly, I think it's probably a case of trying to look
knowledgeable but knowing fuck all. I'll google up some
info.

Oh yes, I need to get these soon because as of tomorrow I'll
have no decks.

I borrowed my mates decks as mine were being hella gay. I
threw them away and now I'm moving so have to give my mates
decks back. I'll have a shitload of vinyl and nothing to
play it on for a while. I'm actually quite depressed about
this.

haha! I think you should take it as evidence that that is
the only bad review of them... more good reviews.. you probably
saw these already, though, but.. RUSS!!!

(I still grealy enjoy the 1210s, btw, and will stick to
them)

nah I wouldn't go with numarks at all. they may look good on
paper, and get a good write up, but how many pro's use them?
none, except the one or two on the numark payroll.

My top choices:
Vestax PDX2000, the originals are still quality and much
cheaper than they used to be

Tech 1210s, tried and tested, if a little long in the tooth

Stanton Str8150, only bad point is the new stanton logo
looks a bit ghey, otherwise fantastic

or for audiophillia:
rega planars. 'cos they are so highly recommended by lots of
people and generally don't have a bad word said about them,
except the price maybe.

i'm thinking of upgrading my alright stantons to a pair of
STR8150s or maybe that new(ish) vestax one.

In conclusion, numark suck, the ttx1 is ok, but not as great
as they would like you to think, and also the buttons and
styling is awful.

Thanks for the tips :) I'll check out those Vestax... I
think they're the ones Ceri has..

yes they are. he will tell you how good they are, and he
will be 99% correct. they feel perhaps slightly too plasticy
for me, and are a bit to rounded.
I want a big heavy tungston plated square deck, not some
plastic light easy to carry structually inferior deck.

The first time i used a pdx2000, my jaw dropped when i
pressed the start/stop and it was at full speed quicker than
i could beleive.
Goto a shop and have a play, all the ones I mentioned are
great, but 1210s are showing their age, but are generally
bomb proof.
