If you're in windows then highlight the file you want to change. PRess F2 then delete the 3 letters at the end after the . and put the one I told you to. eg: monkeybollocks.dll monkeybollocks.doc :) |

He might have to do: Tools -> Folder Options -> View and then untick "Hide file extensions for known file types" |

I think it's to clean up the desktop - I think you can see the ".lnk" at the end of links on the desktop if it's not ticked. I have to say, I would've agreed with you 100% a year or two ago but for some reason I've just grown accustomed to it this way. The reason I posted was that I literally rushed to see if F2 was some nifty shortcut that would let you rename the whole fucking filename, regardless of what view you're in, since having to do this every time really pisses me off. Ah well. :) |

You might do I suppose. I only have 2 icons on my desktop anyway. Recycle Bin Temp Ideally I'd have only the temp folder. I can't find out how to remove the recycle bin from the desktop without it vanishing from explorer as well. The only way I can think of is to make a transparent icon and rename the recycle bin to an ascii space. Then I'd be happy. I hate having a cluttered desktop. |

wow, crazy. I hate that start menu thing. *everything* goes on the desktop. I must have about 50 icons on that mofo, in order of creation and I can find things immediately. |

Jar, sadly I don't have Active Desktop when I right click. I don't know why. I used to on Win2K but on this XP machine it's not there. Redrum, I love having everything in one place. |

I found that option under arrange icons now but I can't see my temp folder only :s I'm fussy. Unless of course I can make it a link on an Active Desktop, Jar, you've given me an idea mate! YAR! |

Strange you should say that, or perhaps not; this thread almost spurred me on to create a "life is beautiful" happy-clappy thread, simply from reading Murray's happy and kind remarks. It makes a change from the usual derogatory stuff -- which, I must admit, I do enjoy reading, once it's amusing -- on this site. "Fleetmouse you are a tonic" made me :D |

LET'S MAKE OUT i try and be happy most of the time, but this act of kindness made me implode. I do enjoy this thread, i do enjoy this board. I started hanging out on this other board full of scenester kids. It was really fun for awhile but it's lost it's charm. I started lurking here again and relaised: 1) no one's a jerk 2) everyone gets on fine (more or less) 3) people are interested in the same things as i am 4) it's not a shallow board 5) people are creative 6) people do this type of thing off their own back how could i not love this board? |
