Slags. Cider. Liverpool.

My teenage years were so good. But now I am jealous that I
can never go back, so I am thinking of getting a younger
body and climbing into it to make me young again. Then I
can go to the cemetery and hang around just like I did when
I was 14, drinking cider and having underage sex.

the prossies are much the same price as 15 years ago so you
can't really complain

perhaps you should reverse that - first go to the cemetery,
THEN climb into a "younger" body.

hmm I'm thinking about going to Uni in liverpool, is it a
great place socially? (that's all that matters really, I
don't give a damn about how good the teaching is at the Uni
as long as its above mediocre)

Friends who have studied there liked it and when visiting
them, I found nightlife to be pretty good and a cheap night
out.

Ceri JC : Thanks, thats what I heard from a few people now
and it makes me want to go there even more. Leave the family
in London, start fresh and have everthing cheap :) ace!

If you come from London, you'll be amazed how cheap the cost
of living is up there. Some of the ninja tunes lads play
there reasonably regularly, the students union has good
bands (they had the Scratch Perverts for their freshers ball
a couple of years back!) A few good drum and bass nights up
there too. Ecnadniarb should be able to point you in the
direction of decent clubs/nights there.

Academically, it's like most places, some mickey mouse
courses, some good ones. Check with some people who work in
the area you're studying what their perception of it/the
quality of graduates is. Never believe league tables,
particularly those cited by the university, there are loads
of different ones and the always use ones that put them in a
favourable light.

yeah...wowzers thanks a lot thats a hell of a loadsa info
:)

my heart's set on the place because :

* its cheap
* has a great nightlife
* is capital of culture 2008
* has the greatest football team in the world
* is far away enough from my parents for them not to
suddenly drop in and "see how I'm doing"

Despite the stereotype of them all being theiving criminals,
I also think you'll be pleasently suprised how friendly and
laid back the people are compared to most Londoners.

SValx : thanks for that! :)
You say you were thinking of applying to
Liverpool..why didn't you go there in the end?

I decided not to apply there because I want to do Psychology
and it's not got the best course for it really. It's still
not completely out of the question as it is a brilliant uni
and as you said there are great prospects for it and the
city because it will be the capital of culture in 2008. My
preferences have tilted towards Leeds now. It's an amazing
city, and I feel much safer in it than in Manchester, for
example.

The unis that are generally the best tend to be called the
name of the city like Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool etc. The
ones that aren't so great are the ones with longer names
such as Liverpool John Moores. I'd strongly advise you
coming up north, it's much cheaper and in my opinion more
relaxed and friendly. It doesn't really matter which big
city uni you pick, up here as long as it's good for the
course you want to do, because they are all reasonably close
to each other. Manchester and Leeds have excellent and
diverse night life and a great music scene, but it wouldn't
matter if you went somewhere else such as Liverpool because
if there was a gig on in Manc or Leeds it'd only take an
hour-an hour and a half to get there.

Just because it's different to your little soft voice
doesn't make it weird Aengus. :)

are you calling me a batty-boy eh?!

nah i actually find it quite interesting; i imagine they
have a well unique vocabulary of colloquialisms as well. i'd
do a thesis or something on the Scouse accent but i hate
phonology :)

yeah I was also looking at Manchester although I
haven't looked at Leeds at all. Its a major piss off
actually because the only way one can get decent information
regarding these Universities is from word of mouth of people
who know them because the prospectuses only show you the
best bits and the damn tables are nothing to go by. John
Moores
looks great on paper and in the prospectus but
I've not had about a dozen people telling me its shit so I
guess I'll cross that off the list. For a targeted course in
English Lit. with a predicted ABCC I guess the Uni's
I'll be looking to apply to at the moment are Liverpool,
UCL, Durham and Manchester.

I need two more to fill up the 6 I need to put on the UCAS
form :(
