chocolate factory

no, this is not a thread about poop! haha! you!

I just watched the new Tim Burton rendition of charlie and
the chocolate factory, and overall it was...I think "silly"
is the best word to describe it. I was definately
disappointed by some stuff, for example modern
culture
leeking into what could be timeless. It was
also trying way too hard to be funny in spots.

However there were parts with humor so subtle I was the only
one laughing in the theatre, and heartily might I add, those
were the good parts. I also noticed my heart being warmed
in spots, which was weird.

why was it necessary to remake what was a classic film? No
remakes or sequels are ever going to be as good or better!
just look at the films over the Summer :-

Kong (remake)
Charlie and the Choc Factory (Remake)
War of the World (Remake)
Batman Begins (Prequel)

and all are gonna be/have been crap.

I've never seen the original, so I'll probably watch this
with fresh eyes and then see the original later on and get
it reversed and.. I wonder what I'll think of the original
vs this...

I haven't seen that one. I've been meanign to watch it for a
long, long time.

I watched Beetlejuice last weekend and liked it. I have
liked every Burton's film I've seen so far.

of the dreams" or whatever in the new flick also?

not all remakes and sequels are crap.

I prefer the rammstein version of das model over the
original...

a remake at all.

then I'll probably never see the other movie just because it
isn't so easily available that I could just rent it...

'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'
A big studio film that really works. A remake that
improves on the original. Hollywood is truly in fantasy land
with "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," Tim Burton's
wildly imaginative take on Roald Dahl's beloved children's
book. This is the sort of visual feast Burton was born to
make. It's a film packed with chaste delights for young
children and plenty of sophisticated, cryptic edge to
entertain and puzzle their parents.

the video might be better but Rammstein's version of the
song is terrible. They ruined Kreaftwerk's cleverly crafted
melody with those damn intruding guitars that they always
use. On top of that I don't think Till Linderman's voice is
anything particularly special.

tim burton wanted to do it 'right' because he hated the gene
wilder version. *shrugs*

The trailers made Wonka look like he spouts out a bunch of
one-liner crappies.

Is this true?

I don't even know if Tim has re-seen the original
picture, he may have seen it when he was a kid, I never went
back and looked at it again. Because what we were doing was
not a remake of that picture, it was a stand alone of
the Roald Dahl book, using what he had written, his title,
and no music, in terms of one actor singing to others.
