music in general, not a single electronic style to miss and
to teach the listeners about it.

if I had to do a show instead of just playing records
and talking a bit about the artists, I'd probably do
something like XL which was on the radio here in norway a
few years back.. it was basically lots of bullshit and
people doing disgusting things (it wasn't only on the
radio.. after a while they made xltv, which had selected
clips where one got to see the disgusting stuff.. quality
programming!)

i have a hard time with tinkery minimalistic stuff. like
The Books. it's like audio masturbation

offline qrter from the future, and it works (Netherlands, The) on 2005-07-16 12:09 [#01665277]

no, because that's exactly what I mean. I like all kinds of
different music, so that would be what you hear.

oh, I'm not talking about the books... I'm talking more like
hiorthøy and takagi masakatsu.. but if you don't like
it, you don't like it, I guess...

I would hardly call The Books 'tinkery minimalistic stuff'.

you probably mean lots of little details, but that isn't
minimalism.

offline Drunken Mastah from OPPERKLASSESVIN!!! (Norway) on 2005-07-16 12:12 [#01665280]

..and yuichiro fujimoto is actually the closest thing to
tinkery minimalistic stuff...

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2005-07-16 12:12 [#01665282]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator

i don't find hiorthoy and masakatsu to be too minimalist
either..

qrter, any news on that books european tour? :)

well, they are sort of.. at least it's tinkery and kind of
minimalistic.

freeform, non-stop music. i'd play shellac followed by
coltrane, then scratch acid, then tuvan throat-singing, etc.

i set the initial question wrong again :)

so if you had to do a 2 hour show about a particular artist,
who would you pick?

There'd be a lot of music I'd want to play, but I'd probably
focus on 60s/early 70s obscuros.

And I'd have ''Karaoke'' contests. For some reason I'd love
to hear dorks singing along to songs I assign to them, then
have other dorks vote on who did the best. Dunno if I could
do that live or if it would have to be prerecorded. For
prizes and cred. I guess I'd need an audience before I did
something like that though.

i would do a show in the early where i played really weird
stuff that has no business being played in the early
evening... oh wait.

but instead of being all sly and silly: i actually did
somewhat of a miny feature on Otomo Yoshihide last week...
but he's totally the sort of guy who you could devote a
several hour long show to, he's had his hand in so much
interesting music for a very very long time now.

show here in norwya.. it sucks... people call in and sing
over the phone...

....generally the music i listened to in school years.

aphex twin, fsol, orbital, the orb, sweet exorcist,
808state...

My show would be about alternative music. Playing these
specials every month. like one month would be about hiphop,
then idm, punk, stoner, more hiphop, these months each would
feature 4 artists. It would be the best show ever.
