What, the fact that the majority of people serving in Iraq
and Afghanistan are poor americans who are only doing it to
get a grant or scholarship or whatever to go to college?

Not true, my buddy is from an middle-upper class family who
joined to get terrorists, not Iraqi citizens.

I can understand how you feel about gun laws here but
there's not much anyone can do short of amending the
constitution. Lobbyists are way to powerful for that to
happen. Besides, if gun laws were taken away people would
still buy them on the street or on the black market of from
the local millitia.

Mertens is right, changing the gun laws wont change the fact
that there are still guns everywhere. Now instead of going
into a pawn shop to get one, you buy it on the black market.

Oh, well if your buddy......

I've been saying "the vast majority" all the way throughout,
and the fact i stated in [#01660454] is just that: a fact.

I agree with you as well, that banning guns won't get rid of
them overnight -- the country is already far too fucked up*
for that -- but it'd be a step in the right direction.

*fucked up: littered with guns, everywhere

Yeah if you look at Canada, they all have guns, more
apparently and practically no gun related crimes each year.
(I watched a programme on tv :D )

Yeah thats what I was thinking, since we cant rectify the
problem, lets go to the other extreme and give everyone
guns. Crazily enough, it might work.

Sometimes the solutions to a problem are the least obvious

Theres two problems here. When you say "most americans" it
appears that you would be speaking of a "more than half".
The word most constitutes a large percentage. Our population
is around 250,000,000.

Therefore K_maty wasnt entirely wrong with the "hundreds of
thousands" statement.

Your views are quite wild. All this talk about poor
americans in the army when there are so many from well off
familys that have been enlisting because they want to honor
their familys or support the country they live in.

You have this overwhelming close minded view on the US. If
you have never stayed here for over a month then you dont
really know much aside from what the TV tells you. I am
quite well aware of the anti-american stuff on the TV over
seas. I personally feel like that if we even do anything
good to benefit anyone it wont matter because it wont draw
ratings seeing as "anti american" news draws ratings due to
the overall feeling of the rest of the world.

Unfortunately nothing will improve for us because the media
isnt all of a sudden going to do a 180 and start praising
our country for anything that we do good. Which will keep
non americans virtually "anti-american" Which will in turn
get us no where.

Secondly (imo) not having guns can be quite dangerous. The
people in this world are not 100% peace loving and you will
always have some sort of mafia/syndicate that will vie for
power using deadly force. People should have the right to
protect ourselves from that.

Our right to bear arms was instated (if i remember
correctly) to defend ourselves from our own government if
anything went out of control.

The fact of the matter is that the Army recruiters over
there specifically target poor, working-class young
Americans and that the majority of those serving overseas at
the moment are in this demographic.

Those who are from more well-off families and have signed
up, well - they should've known better. They obviously
believe they're doing something patriotic and honourable:
but is it really honourable to fight for your country's
global dominance in a war that was obviously unjust
to begin with?

And this brings us to the last point - what you regard as an
anti-American bias in the media outside the states. The fact
is that it isn't anti-American, it just isn't as censored as
the media in America (the American press ranked #17 in the
world in terms of freedom).

So therefore, you almost can't blame anyone for
signing up to do their "patriotic duty", when they're being
told that this is what it is, from all quarters, and there
is so little criticism of the idea of going to war in the
media, compared with the discussion that went on outside
America.

It's seen as unpatriotic by some to criticise the President
and his policies over there -- then what's the point of your
so-called democracy? This is what I'm railing against.
Ignorance.

Anybody who ever seriously endangers or hurts my girlfriend,
depending on circumstance and reasoning. Pretty much
anything else I am not going get too serious about.

I'd kill someone who hurt a cat/kitten or dissed my mom.

I dunno about that, I don't know anyone with guns (I don't
know many people, granted, but still). ''Programmes'' on TV
can be wrong, I remember Bowling for Columbine presented us
inaccurately.

But yeah us Canadians rock and are the sexy master race.
