why don't you just plug your computer speakers into the line
out of the mp3 player

That's what I do right now - but it's a bit of a hassle if I
wanted to switch quickly to something on the PC.

I don't have a line-out lead, Jack.

what mp3 player do you have.. that might help. how do you
usually add songs onto it? i'm assuming it isn't recognized
as a drive

a Creative Zen. I add songs using the Nomad explorer - I
think you can download software from the Nomadworld site,
only I time-out everytime I try to go there.
