Tonight I convinced a twat in the pub that the word genius came from the history and mystery surrounding "magic lamps". I explained that the magic lamp housed genies and was called a genie house, through the ages this was shortened to genie'ouse and later to genius, this derivitive form then being applied to anybody with the intelligence and wisdom to live in a magic lamp. He beleived me. |

Then I went to a friends house and cut my hand opening a bottle after the neck of the bottle shattered as I was removing the top. Luckily it was just a few scratch size cuts. |

Actually, Genius IS related to the Genie (Ar. Jinnee) - the guardian spirit of Mohammedan mythology. Genius originally means Guardian - people who were in touch with their Genius were under their guardianship and our modern usage springs from the communication with the Genius... those who were better attuned to their Genius and thus received the best communication were held in high esteem, and now we call THEM the geniuses. |
