Battlefied 2 [PC]

Got this game yesterday. It's highly demanding to the
extent that it can cripple my PC, and the load times are
laughable. I may be the newbiest newb on the field but i can
feel the knowledge sucking into me and i am gradually
starting to enjoy the game more.

Any views?

the only one in the series i've ever played is battlefield:
vietnam. that was pretty good, but the servers were usually
laggy.

Horsefactory made me wise to the demo and I checked it out.
It's awesome. I'm going to get the game soon.

I have it, and I'm not very impressed... to be honest I was
expecting far better graphics than what it is (the graphics
are pretty decent, but the screenshots I saw must have been
retouched because they looked absolutely amazing),
especially considering that at the highest settings it
doesn't look that great and lags horribly (my computer runs
doom 3 and halflife 2 flawlessly at the highest settings).
graphics aside, I'm disappointed that you still can't go
into any buildings (every entrance is a locked door or a
boarded window that you can do nothing about), so that cuts
the realism basically in half. Also, the developers saw it
fit to remove all the options for singleplayer instant
battle, so, aside from editing game files, there is no way
to change the amount of tickets each side has, the amount of
players on each team, the amount of time the map will play
for, etc. Having to play every mission in singleplayer with
absolutely no flexibility of the rules gets old in.... 15
minutes.

all that being said, the combat is far better in this
version than any of the battlefields before it, but it still
feels too arcade-action style to be considered a realistic
combat sim in my books.

7/10

perhaps they will release patches to allow options to be
changed?

developers always go back on what they set out to do :)

i don't understand the rules fully.

what are tickets?

and where do the scores come from, e.g "USMC wins 64-0"

tickets = spawns.

when you spawn a ticket is used up, and when there are no
tickets left no one on that team can spawn - thus meaning
they lose.

what gave you that impression?

I'm sorry if it bothers you that I rate games very
objectively. I personally think battlefield 2 has a horrible
interface (its the first multiplayer FPS I've played that
doesn't have custom rules settings). Also, I don't think
it's wrong to be disappointed when the in-game graphics
aren't as good as what you see in advertisements. Besides, I
don't see how giving a game a 7 out of 10 means I didn't
like it at all.

tickets are like the collective "lives" for each team.

Each time you die (and by 'die' I mean when you actually
respawn, as getting revived by a medic doesn't decrease
tickets any) your team loses 1 ticket. If one side holds
half (or more) of the capture points on the map, then the
other team's tickets gradually decrease. The team to reach 0
tickets first is the loser.
