I'm going to try to keep this as simple and to the point as possible, try to bare with me here....
I'm trying to get selected Analord tracks on a cd.
Now for some reason I cannot download mp3's off soulseek with my new computer (HP Pavilion a705w, peice of shit i know). A message pops up that says "your computer is connected to the internet, but cannot connect to a server (?).
So now I'm using my old computer to DL them (gateway GP) because strangely (even though its older) the gateway is able to connect and DL from SLSK.
Now, my problem is that the gateway (which I have the Analord tracks on) doesn't have a CD bruner, but the HP does.
I'm trying to figure out how to get the tracks from the gateway onto the HP. First I figured that I'de just upload the tracks from the gateway to the internet, and DL them onto the HP. But the files are mpeg, and are to big to upload (files have to be 5mb or less on geocites) and I can't find a free MPEG to MP3 converter.
So the only thing I can think of now, is to take the cd-rom/burner from the HP and install it into the gateway.
So my question (s) is...
1. Why can't my HP connect to a server on SLSK? 2. Where can I find a free MPEG to MP3 converter? 3. In the case that I have to install the cd-rom/burner from the HP to the gateway, how would I go about doing that?
Anyway, any help or advise would be highly appreiciated.
thanks.

if it is your gateway (that the files are on), then your other computer is connected to it via network right? why not just copy it over the network?

Your solution in two words: "batch files". Now depending on whether you're using mac or pc and which parameters you have chosen (unless using what was selected by default) the details of how to do this can vary. But first you definately need to open up your computer's CARG.TXT file. Chances are that, being an old one, your computer is set to use the older mp2 format. Whenever it recieves an mp3 it probably just completely bypasses some very essential lines of code and therefore the mp3 doesn't work. You can make mp3s work though by downloading a program called "mpdoctor". You can find it for free on some sites like tucows.com. Once you have that program just follow the included txt file on how to install and run it in order to change you computer's CARG file. After you do that you have to add the following lines of code (just put them in at the top).
"mp2 = dotscale-3" "mp2= dotscale-2" "mp2= dotscale-1" "mp3= HAF22 AF12" Now you just need to associate the CARG file with the appropriate batch files, but you have to make the batch files first. Actually you said you're using gateway so nevermind. You'll have to use zip files. You can still trick your computer into thinking they're batch files by chaning the file extension though. Just get "B Batch". It should do the trick. If you need anymore help, let me know but the rest is pretty obvious.
