YES! I love it, and you get THREE guesses as to who I'm
seeing live TONIGHT!

the track called Be is one of the best if not the
best one on this album! I love that synth and the way it
works with the bass!

btw: did you notice the references throughout that he kind
of thinks Electric Circus wasn't too good an album? I can't
remember the song, but somewhere he rhymes something about
this being his second resurrection.. the first is obviously
the album Resurrection, and for this to be his second, he
has to think he's been doing something wrong, I guess...
Anyway, I loved electric circus too... and the rest of his
albums. Common is always good...

of mtv, so they may send it on mtv some time). I was to his
last concert when it was electric circus, and it was
amazing!

meh. This is as good as the best that Doom has ever put out
(and I really really like Doom), Danger Doom should be good
but I'm not overly excited about hearing it, not when there
is quality like this available.

i heard a car pumping one of the tracks from this (all i
know from it is there's a sample saying "Before you lock my
love away") right by my house

this perplexed me because it wasnt gangster or top40
"hiphop" shit which is all you hear in this neighborhood

I'm back! It was lovely, as expected! He's got a way with
the crowd and - I remember him doing this slightly the last
time I saw him - but it's still amazing how he weaves in
things about the place he's playing in. He did a whole
freestyle part about Bergen, Norway, Isle of MTV and the
norwegian "krone" (the money), and he quite often exchanged
stuff in his songs to fit in with that!

He did some from the new, but also put in the classics like
the light and that one the name of which escapes me right
now, but I'm drunk and very very happy! YAY!

There was also a very funny bit where he was going to get a
chick on stage (as the custom is), but the two first he got
up were too drunk to stand straight (the first one fell kind
of bad over the fence when she was going up and the second
one had no rhythm/was drugged or something), so he spent
some time joking with them and it was a really good time!

Only bad thing I can say about the concert is that mtv are
scum and common didn't get to do an extra song or two.
However, he guested Razhel later (they did "on the corner,"
and Razhel had also done the beat on one track in commons
concert).

Also: if Razhel ever happens to play near you.. just GO! See
him! That's damned near the most fucking amazing thing I've
seen!

All in all, I'd say that even if you don't like
hip-hop, it should be possible to enjoy common (at
least live, but his albums are also lovely!), but I
haven't gotten any soberer since I started writing this post
so... <3!!!

good producer, bad rapper.

he's stuck on his style, though...

btw: I'm more of a lyrics guy, but unforunately that is
paired with a bad memory, so I kind of only remember the
lyrics when I'm actually hearing the song...)

west has a very slick style would you say?

that's what this album would suggest, with (modern) r'n'b
influences.

yeah, he's found some great stuff, and he sticks to it and
he knows it'll make him hits, but I also think he's just
doing what he feels he should (only with a little hint of
money-making in the mix).. I'd rather call him smooth, I
think...

yeah, and that "money-making" incentive is raised in quite a
bit of common's lyrics... seems a bit hypocritical.

drunken mastah, can you please tell me whats the set up on
his gigs like, i was just thinking if i should go, but since
im bored with 95% of all the hip hop shows i see, i was just
wandering if he has some musicians there, or hes just
rapping on top of a dj playing instrumentals?

give me some details please

well.. the last time I saw him he had a fulll band. this
time it was only him, a dj and a guy on keys.. he still
rocked the crowd, though, and it's also possible that mtv
wanted it like that for some reason (even though the beats
on be are harder to do for a band if you compare it to
electric circus)...

someone played this album at work, I had two issues with it

1.in one of the tracks he compared himself to Jesus, what
sort of twat does that?

2.the last track, with all those kids on it, made me want to
vomit, it's like one of those cheesy mobile phone ads

Other than that I'm sure it's brilliant

dunno, cos I was just listening at work, didn't see a track
list or anything

lyrics went something like

"I'm like Jesus because I something, something something"

or it could have been

"and just like Jesus I something, something, something"

but you get the idea

ah. I listened through the album again, and took special
notice when I heard christ stuff.

that's probably the thing about the second resurrection
you're talking about. the line goes they say my life is
comparable to christ / the way I sacrificed and resurrected
twice
(or something.. couldn't be bothered to write it
down as it went on). the song's called "they say" and rhymes
start with "they say," as it's all things "they" say (and as
I said in the second post I made here, it seems to me that
"electric circus" wasn't as much of a success as he'd have
hoped, and people apparently meant it was bad or something),
and not something common says. anyway, it's more of an
analogy than a compare.

also "chi-city" starts off with something like "I rap
with the passion of christ
," which I remember laughing
at the first time, as I thought to be a wordplay on that
movie "the passion of the christ"

I guess it's a rap ego thing, didn't tupac also compare
himself to JC?,I read the sleevenotes to his latest DVD box
set, pretentious ain't the word.

I don't know about tupac, but I still don't think common is
comparing himself to jesus. he's just using things that
happened to jesus analogically (ok, I have NO idea how I
should conjugate or whatever that word, but hopefully you
get what I mean) to things that happened to him to describe
stuff. it's like going "you know how that guy in the movie
got a pin in his eye? that happened to me too once," which
doesn't really imply that I'm comparing myself to the guy in
the movie, but the incidents are analogue to each other.

I get what you mean, he says "some say" rather than "I say"
too, so maybe he's not such a twat after all, I only heard
it in passing though and thus took it at face value.

that last track does suck though, even the common fans that
put it on thought so.

yeah, the entire text of "they say" is some kind of
"comeback" I think.. a reply to all those who said "electric
circus was crap, man! you're loosing it!" and stuff like
that... like the first line in the song "they say a nigga
lost his mind / but in the scheme of things I never lost a
rhyme
"

those kids' voices (or at least what they're saying, and
what is implied) are a bit of a regular occurrence in
hip-hop albums of this type, yes, but nothing that puts me
off the track.
