i'm losing patience with invalid page faults on closing due
*ahem* incompatability with 3rd party plug-ins i.e.
audioscrobbler, an issue which seemingly they acknowledge
but refuse to address. it also keeps locking up and freezibg
the computer if i scan a mp3, i.e. move it to another place.
ther have been 2 updates to winamp recently, clearly they
still have some underlying problems.

anywayz! if you don't use winamp, then suggest, preferably
with a good reason attached, another prefereably similar in
look (skinning) media player (just for audio), which is
compatable with audioscrobbler, and has cddb.

thankyou.

approximately 3 krays running in parallel

you could try foobar2000, it has an audioscrobbler
plugin and cddb, but interface wise is nothing like winamp.
i don't have any of those problems with my installation of
winamp/audioscrobbler by the way - maybe try uninstalling
and starting from scratch.

i've done that 4 times today already. and i deleted all the
other files before i re-installed. and i deleted any
registry entries left over. and i tried different
instalaltions of both winamp and audioscrobbler. do you want
to buy me a new computer please?

I've never used Winamp. I got Sonique when I first got into
MP3's and stuck with that ever since. Sonique.com I think,
I'd check but.. well.. can of beer.

windows media player is the devil. not because it's
microsoft, but because it's just an incredibly shit media
player.

it's only worthwhile for watching movies.. and naturally
videolan kicks its ass at that.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to use Media player to
listen to music.. I think it has something to do with it
being the first thing they see when they double-click their
first mp3 :/

bill gates taking a page out of the jesuits' book..

I have no problems with Winamp and Audioscrobbler. Are you
running Winamp 5 and the "Media Library" version of the
Audioscrobbler plugin?

I tried Foobar2000 when, for some reason, I couldn't get
track tags to work correctly on Winamp with flac files, but
I switched back when it suddenly started working right.
Foobar2000 is good player, I'd probably be using it now but
it loads huge amounts of files a lot slower than Winamp.
Loading my entire music folder might take 5 seconds with
Winamp, but maybe 5 minutes with Foobar.

what makes it a bad player for music? it has the best
library organization IMO, it's great.

I used winamp before, when WMP was at version 5, and yes it
was very shit back then windows media player versions 5, 6,
7 and 8 were incredibly shit like you say.. but they made a
lot of improvements with versions 9 and 10. It made me stop
using winamp.

i agree, windows media player 10 is actually a great player,
especially when used with XP Media Center Edition. I
personally dont use it but im not gona hate on it simply
because its made by windows.

there are a lot of software, real one player ... etc...

winamp for my Flacs.

wmp10 does not run AT ALL on win98se. apart from that it's a
total resource hog

yes it's an absolute resource hog. it doesn't look nice.
it's not as flexible as winamp (plugins)

If i didn't have an iPod i'd still be using winamp 2 for
sure. And yes i know there's an ipod support plugin for
winamp, but i've spent too much time on tagging mp3s for
itunes..

quintessential player is awesome,

I actually think that it's equalizer is far superior to
winamps when it comes to sound,

i know i should be shot for it, but i still have a lot of
wma's on my computer from when i DID use wmp. too lazy to
update. but the new winamp 5 won't play any of those files.
it's very irritating. cuts my library very nearly in half.

offline ambsace from canaDUH. on 2005-06-18 23:49 [#01637478]

i mean to say it won't play them because it crashes.

i'd still be using winamp 2, but i got tired of dealing with
that fucking alert pop-up asking me to update every time i
loaded it up. shoulda stuck t'ma guns.

I downloaded Foobar. Read a FAQ about it. Uninstalled it.
Too much fucking hassle. I want it to work and be
customisable easily. Fuck pissing around with config and
shit.

I'm having a few winamps problems of late too as well. I'm
keeping an eye out for a new one.

Random crashing.
The volume control deciding to take over the whole of
windows so I'd mute Winamp for some reason and it'd mute the
whole computer. Never used to do that.
The Media Library won't update automatically even though
I've told it to. I've done a full reinstall etc.
