Why I can't be arsed discussing music here.

Because nobody wants to discuss music any more, they just
want to post something they, and nobody else, finds
absolutely hysterical. Be it blank posts or stupid pictures
every topic now turns to mush after the first one or two
posts.

If a music topic is created and you have an opinion then
great, but don't just type "it is shit" or "i like it" just
because you want to +1 to your points count. The moderators
do their best but in the face of the sheer number of
pointless posters there is a limit to what they can acheive.
Sure there will always be light hearted shit going on but
we shouldn't let it spread to every topic.

There have been a number of good (or at least discussion
worthy) releases recently, although you wouldn't have
thought it to look at the general content here. Let's try
to get xltronic back to the music and back to the way phobia
planned it to be.

The End.

listening to it. It's beautifully lush and complex.

I agree with you, I'd ban all the people that post 99% shit
(unless you're including me, and even then) but if they were
to go you'd get hoary old fuckers that no one pays attention
to anyway like Dannn_ and i_x_ten bemoaning their rights to
post "nonsense" and emailling Phobia, it's lose-lose at the
moment without RADICAL ACTION. The "humour" is fucking
infantile, very boring. Horrible.

Alright, I'll go a bit more indepth on the whole Ranky
business.

It sounds like a fucking lazy track with fucking lazy random
noises generated by a lazy fucking cunt. It's exactly the
same all the way (times two), and it's totally mystifying to
me how he could ever even contemplate releasing such bland
tripe. Seriously, it's like a bunch of sines randomly
playing and looping and a barely audible, dull beat that
wanks on in the background. I don't have a problem with the
tempo, it's just the whole "meat" of the track that is
fucking non-existant. It's fucking anorectic!

I really enjoyed the Analord series. Even though it had a
few blemishes on its way (Analord 9 was weak, in my mind),
it was a pretty great ride with lots of interesting, unique
tracks between the records. This is why Ranky disappointed
me so thoroughly, because it sounds, like I said previously,
lazy and boring. I feel there's no merit at all to it, it's
like a "piss you off" track. I guess I'm not into that
"random-sounding minimalism" stuff, because to me it sounds
utterly pointless.

Now smiiile.

That was my point exactly, I just summed it all up to
"Worst. Track. Ever." cause it's just such a crappy track
with watered out lowpassed drums, random sinebeeps like some
stupid sci-fi computer console that has no meaning. It's
probably just a joke too, so I just skip it and play
something else instead.

offline ecnadniarb on 2005-06-16 17:29 [#01634918]
Points: 24805 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

I like the beat underpinning it. I dunno, I just like the
contrast of the track. It's so obviously not random.

impakt I love this theory you share with others that because
you can describe certain technical aspects of the track it
actually backs up your claims.

The Mona Lisa was shit because he just used paint on canvas.

I hate how people back their meanings up with pretentious
idm-feelings saying how they "understand" the track, and how
it is ok by them if others don't, as long as they accept the
fact that your opinion is more intelligent and artsy hence
better.

I used that way of describing the track because it's just
dull and boring, it could have been avantgarde-ambient, but
instead he added some sappy drums and made it a sound like a
bootleg done with a 1934 tape-recorder through a brickwall.

i don't understand the point of this thread. you know as
well as anyone that not everyone is going to be able to
write an essay for every thread you make. not everyone here
is able to talk about every item (although as a rule, they
should probably not post in a thread about music they
haven't heard) and not everyone who has something to say
will always say it properly. besides that, the fact is that
it isn't always easy to discuss music since it inherently
transcends other forms of communication. this is a
laid-back board and if someone bumps a slow topic by just
posting, "cool track" it does more good than harm, imo.

well.. no, not that many (IMO, of course), unfortunately..
and those I've tried to discuss only end up with one or two
other people responding, so I see your point here... it's
frustrating.

however, about the people going "I like it" or "I hate it"
here; often that is all one can say about a release while at
the same time one doesn't want a thread about the release to
go without your opinion... also it is better to get a "I
hate it" than no replies at all.

and then there's the fact that we've been literally drowning
in analords and untilteds.. it's almost a parody of itself..
if people could stop making one thread per track it may be a
bit easier to keep up a discussion.. if anything, mods
should close threads when there are three threads, one to
each track on side a of any given analord and give
directions to one thread for that analord (that "discuss
this release" feature should work perfectly for this. People
need to use that more, and the discogs need to be
updated/cleaned!) or merge them to one thread at least.

And how is it obvious that it's not random? Random doesn't
mean "not good". He could easily generated that kind of
melody with a randomizing function. In fact I've written
reaktor ensembles that make better music with a single click
on the randomize button.

Well at least he did it first and didn't spend his time
feverishly copying it, saying on one hand "I hate it" and on
the other "Yeah, we might press up our Analord homages on
vinyl, we ARE FAMOUS, you just haven't heard of us (outside
of Oslo)"

Overall i agree. Often times i make shorter posts because i
might not have an elaborate thought to back up my "ace
album" post. I only type essays on topics that i feel
passionately about.

I have discussed music to great lengths with various members
about artists that deserve it. The main artists that are
discussed here dont interest me all that often.

I could go into lengths about yagya and why that album
encourages me to make music for Jeck or someone else. People
rarely discuss the electronic music i like.

I've never said I'm a god, and my musicmaking abilities
