i've never seen this band mentioned anywhere on any
messageboard i go to... do you know/like/hate/don't care
about them?

i like them, poppy but good.
they define themselves as "electronic soul", but i've seen
them described as trip-hop, pop, indie or electronica as
well.

you can freely download all their tracks in mp3 128kbps from
their site (!).

heard wasn't all that good..haven't listened to anything
theirs in a long time though.

They make me think of when 4AD suddenly lost the plot and
only signed shit bands. Like Gusgus.

gus gus have been mentioned on xlt, i remember this
clearly.

I like their "vs T-World" album, which is
remastered/remixed/repatriated collection of their pre gus
gus tracks, as far as I know. This album is less poppy.

polydistortion , This Is Normal - i have them and like them.
very good albums. Hafdis Huld has a very nice voice. their
best period i think, as a collective. i haven't heard the
other records, but i'm going to.

kinda poppy, but still most original.

now, someone from Iceland should enter this thread and tell
a funny story about how he/she met a gusgus member in a pub
and had a nice chat

They just seemed like normal chill out music. Done decently,
but without any edge or soul. Works well on a compilation
for people who get enemas and then go to the carrot bar for
a berry espresso. They get a 5 in my book. For the record, 5
is about what I would give to shakira, cylob and metalica.
Britney spears and squarepusher would get a 6.

i'm not much of a fan, but i like Polydistortion alot. it's
a rehash of their debut album (iceland release only) which
was self titled. i've yet to hear that so i don't know how
much the tracks differ from Polydistortion.

the tracks i like the most are Believe, Polyesterday, Oh and
Purple

i just listened to few tracks from the self titled. the
original version of polyesterday sounds damn funky.
completely different song except for the singing/lyrics.

i never got impression they were a chillout project...it's
rather a dance/club thing, they're very good as a live act.
probably shakira or britney can only wish that ......ah,
nevermind. it seems you don't get Tha Vibe anyway :P

i'm reading interview with Biggi Veira and he says something
like this :

"President Bongo's brother owns a computer firm in Iceland
and he programmed this interactive radio station that was
broadcasted here in Iceland. The concept was that the
station was completely user driven. So you just hook up on
the internet, pick your songs and they just went in a queue
and then they are played on this radio station. This was
really popular radio station in Iceland and you could send
them your own songs and stuff... So on that radio station
you could hear everything for the first time, mostly Iceland
underground hiphop and that was really fascinating...."

Can you say something about it ? Did you or anyone from xlt
send their tracks up there ? Icelandic thecut ?

it was ok while it lasted. boc got played sometimes and,
like the interview says, icelandic hiphop that you didn't
hear much anywhere else. i didn't know you could send them
your songs, but then again i didn't use the system that
much, just listened.

so much time has passed, new album's out. what's your
opinions ? mind you that after "this is normal" gus gus is
becoming more and more a leftfield dance act. too bad they
didn't explore some of the strange-sounding territories from
"polydistortion" - but it seems their strength: changing
personnell, changing sound

it seems like every album they release is not as good as the
previous one (probably partly explained by the fact that
they used to be twelve, now there are only three left
including one that was not in the original formation)... yet
each album is also different, and they still have a
particular soul/touch/sound to their music i enjoy.

there's a new album coming out at the end of the month,
called Forever; the music seems even more
techno/dancefloor-oriented than on Attention (well,
let's be honest, it's straightforward dancefloor music now).
here is a link with extracts... it still sounds
pretty good to me, but i'm afraid i will get bored of it
because of it sounding too "coldly" and "mechanically"
danceable over the course of the whole album*. (and the
artwork is hideous.)

(* is this sentence gramatically correct?)

The old coffee table/trip hop stuff sucked, but the newer
techno-ish tracks are quite good.

Yes. I was kind of disappointed by "Forever". Haven't heard
that LFO remix though.

after a few listens, i think i can say that both
Attention and Forever are growers. frankly,
when i first listened to Forever i thought it was
crap. but i gave it a second chance, and now i find myself
listening to it pretty often and enjoying it very much —
especially 'Moss', 'You'll never change' and 'Hold you'.

you're right, Forever IS a grower. after first listen i
wasn't that impressed, but after a few times i just ....got
into the trance ! ;] They're good and they might already be
classic dance producers.

As to Hooverphonic: choose whichever of their albums that
you can get, they're all quite similar in style.
