this is great! the g8 countries are deleting 100% of the
debts of certain development countries! It is possible they
will delete more countries' debt if they "meet targets for
good governance and tackling corruption." I don't know what
exactly they mean by that last bit, and it somehow has a bad
ring to it, but it's still pretty great that these countries
get a new go without the debt weighing them down!

hehe.. credit cards are dangerous! maybe they'll do it if
you meet targets for good governance and tackling
corruption?

Hopefully there won't be strings attached to the aid. Plus
the West can't expect these countries to immediately style
themselves on their own systems and economies, most of the
countries that need aid are still at a stage where the west
was years ago, these countries have to be allowed to develop
in their own way as the West was able to.

yeah.. unfortunately, I think they have some strings
attached other than those "clean up your government" ones...
they just haven't told people about them yet... I hope they
let these countries take some time to restructure and pull
themselves out of the trouble, and at the same time that
they/other organisations don't down-prioritize helping these
countries with different matters like food, water and
health-issues...

yes it would be the right thing to do but it's unlikely it
will happen in that. As i see it the West is responsible for
the situation in Africa so it has a responsability to clean
it up while maintaining the concept of self-determination
for these proud countries.
