i don't know why either. but in the end it doesnt matter. im
sure youd agree with a group of friends the more varied in
taste of anything, the better. i was with a group of friends
tonight and they are fans of coldplay, u2, travis, or
whatever etc. but in the end does it matter? the only chance
i now ever have of talking about electronic struff is on
here, which is why i still post.

if you label yourself as a strict fan and restrict
yourself because of a subculture you want to be a part of,
you're a fucking moron.

just enjoy all the great music around you, just about every
genre has something really good to offer if you look
carefully.

chill out.

but how can they be music lovers if the music itself is less
important than the lyrics added to it? to me "music lovers"
are opened minded to many musical genres, not just rock.

it's all bah humbug, the more diverse the better. i must be
in the minority here when if i'm talking to a friend and he
disagrees with me, i feel good not bad.

[now that expression doesn't sound right]

I'm sorry to hear this

well, they're all about to become music journalists/critics
so that's a bit different than your mates situation :) glad
you still post here!

alberto, i don't know how..they sure know way more about
music history than 99% of people on this site :)

I didn't know it's possible to be 'about to become' a music
journalist. Where can I study this stuff? In my world it was
always about brouad taste in music and good connections in
the local music scene

well, it's a bit different here..everyone who gets to work
for this radio station has the doors opened for almost any
media..there's a whole bunch of people who used to work for
this radio station that are know real respected critics and
journalists for various tv stations, magazines..out of 28
people who auditioned these 8 came through..

Wow - either it's a major radio station you're working for
or a rather small community. Not to diss that or anything,
I'm about to move back to a 'less than a million people'
city in my home country and can believe the way the media
business works there is exactly as you've described..

well im still on probation..and it's a very small town
although it's a capital (300.000 citizens)..the whole
country has 2 million. the radio is known in wider region
though and it's completly different in every way to any
other radio in the country..completly independant.

There we see our hero, Goran!

Using His machete-edged Wit and sopping sponge of Knowledge,
Goran proceeds onward!

Onward thru the firey bowels, slicing the unworthy!

Trudging o'er the frozen tundra to deliver the Analord to
His rightful throne!

That sounds really cool, an inter-regional independent radio
station. We used to have that in Finland quite some time ago
but I think it's different forces running the system now...

not to sound like an elistist prick, but really I listen to
all types of music and personally I find some electronic
music more inventive then most of the nonsense music being
created today

you do deserve to work there, you know more about certain
types of music than they all know combined and analord is a
funny thing to say when you are typing in silent film speak.

i seriously lack knowledge in big important bands..for
example i know almost nothing about bands like pink floyd,
velvet underground, sonic youth,.. and they can discuss
stuff like how parts of certain songs sound different in
various versions..i bet you would fit in excellent though :)

You'll find people like this everywhere. You can even see in
this thread examples of electronic music anoraks turning
their noses up at other types of music. Compared to a lot of
other music, electronic doesn't have it hard. Also, Critics
are respected nowadays?

it's easy to speak a lot about rock when you only listen to
rock
if you listen to a lot of style you are less specialized in
a style and that's what it is for a lot of people like you
and me i think

lyrics can greatly improve a song with a good music but it
can do nothing when the music is bad

by the way the guys tolstoyed is speaking about are imo
older than the majority of us and that's why they know a lot
more about rock than us ; maybe they are really fond of this
style and when you are fond of something you learn fast and
well
personnaly it's not my case : i love music and listen to
practically every genre but i'm not fond of a genre in
particular

I don't know how accepted electronic music is in everyone's
local area but here electronic music is looked upon either
as gay or "raver music". There's no knowledge or interest at
all for the majority of people round these parts.

it all ended after the many electronic bands. it severs the

thats a good point, lyrics or even a singing voice - almost
has to be a staple in good music for some of the most avid

i think i didn't explain well (like usual). they don't have
anything against electronica, they just don't find it
enjoyable.. they're a bunch of real nice guys, not
pretentious or something like that..they seem very open
towards different stuff but as it happens stuff without
lyrics they find not interesting :)

i think the difference you perceive between hip hop and idm
or whatever you want to call it is larger than the actual
difference: they're both two different forms of the larger
whole of electronic music. just because you're favorite kind
isn't popular right now doesn't mean another part of the
mother brain isn't. i don't know why music largely made with
drum machines, samplers and synthesizers would not qualify
as electronic

I have a large circle of friends, of whom 90% would class
music as being very imoprtant in their lives. Some are in
bands, some are DJ's, some work for radio and some are just
fans. Most, if not all, would include electronic artists in
a list of their favourite artists, but for the majority this
would be more mainstream acts (Prodigy, Chemical Brothers,
Daft Punk etc.) Out of all of them, only two or three
appreciate electronica artists in the form of Aphex,ae and
the like. Even some of those with a wide and varied
appreciation of music refer to electronica as "noise" and
"bleeps and static".

oh, that was a follow-up to Tolst. i smelled some elitism
there in what You wrote down the topic.

i think this rock vs electronica thing is quite an endless
matter.

we're talking about tastes, so on a rock messageboards
people will say "how lucky we are that we don't have to buy
those analords, fuck those aphex twins" or shit like that.

"the more varied in taste of anything, the better" -
earthleakage is right

narrow minded in music terms is what i thought..imo he's
among the biggest names of modern music..there was a
question about him in that audition as well (they used his
real name btw, not the alias) so i suppose im not the only
one who think he's pretty important. ofcourse i don't know
all rock stars either but i like to think i know the most
important ones.. on the other hand im starting to appreciate
rock music every day more, there's plenty of superfantastic
stuff and there's just no end to it.
