Instant Transcendentalness

Monoid: yup. right on.

Dannn_ : yeah, that bit in American Beauty. And let's not
forget basically all of Donnie darko...

?

er.... more just the general filming techiques make it seem
that way. For example the beginning of the film when he's
cycling home after waking up in his pyjamas on the road.
That was quite.... overly-attuned. And the moment at night
in the bathroom when he's taken his drugs.

I used to get them all the time when I was younger. Not
anymore though. They were really weird and always revolved
around "shit, is this real? am I actually alive? this can't
be real, no way"

I thought transcendental can only be found a priori. Kant:
'I entitle transcendental all knowledge which is occupied
not so much with objects as with the mode of our knowledge
of objects in so far as this mode of knowledge is to be
possible a priori.'

So, transcendental knowledge - as contrasted with
transcendent knowledge, which leaves all possible experience
and therefore one has no method by which to verify ones
claims (eg. about God, Immortality, etc.,) - is that which
provides the a priori active conditions of the mind by which
a posteriori experience is possible in the first place.

Space and time, for Kant, are a priori particulars. They are
empirically real (experience is only made possible by means
of imposing a spatial-temporal framework) though
transcendentally ideal (that is, they only exist in so far
as they are active operations of the mind).

Or so Kant thought at least.

I've probably just made myself look like a complete cunt
here.

I'd say some tiny things may spark a transcendental or
enlightened mindstate. Usually, it will happen to me if I
state something that is a contradiction (on purpose, to get
into that mindstate... which I guess would be related to a
Zen approach....?). Or, if I say my own name to myself over
and over for a few minutes. I can't really describe it. It's
a headtrip, though.
