turn everything off, get your stuff out, get a cold drink,
set yourself a reward; e.g. a cig after an hour,
concentrate, it's not so bad once you start. do short bursts
with rewards, you'll find the bursts become longer.

I would disable the internet in a way that would require a
huge amount of effort to get back on it, and read the
required books while playing your favorite music.

Did the trick for me. :)

mins revising

i find music makes revision worse.

its like suddenly even the worst song in the world has
become insanely good when you have a choice between
listening to it or ignoring it and revising...

Haha, that's true.

Also, plenty of mundane things seem really important. Like
getting a drink, or eating some random food, or shitting and
pissing. If I was on the net they wouldn't pass my mind, but
suddenly during revision these things have the upmost
importance.

mind.

Ah man... this is like looking at myself! I've got six exams
on Friday and I've only just really started revising
properly :S. Been doing it in the garden all day in the sun.
I think it's helped motivate me a bit and I seem to work
better under pressure.

wow excellent - everyone getting into the exam mood. Note
heavy sarcasm. yeah, me too sadly. And no can't be asked to
revise. they tried to get us motivated a couple of months
ago but they simply managed to burn us out and now I'm
completely unmotivated, uninspired and just plain ol' bored.
Music helps though. And the fact that MSN convos keep
popping up with general panic stricken cries for help. Makes
me a bit more concerned.

You should have all gone to a school who dont make you do
AS's after the first year. I don't have any exams as I'm
doing 4 A-levels

but if you don't do as levels then (1) you can't judge how
you're doing halfway through the course, and (2) if you fail
your a-levels you have nothing to fall back on

This man speaks truth.

I have a problem caring too, Walnut. It's like, "oh, I'll
just do it tomorrow." And each day I keep saying that.

You're not wrong. I was thinking of doing philosophy and
maths at uni but throughout this year iv decided that'd be a
hugely bad idea and decided to do psychology instead. Also
it means I can drop Physics at the end of this year, which I
am completely shit at.

offline i_x_ten from arsemuncher on 2005-06-08 10:36 [#01626655]
Points: 10031 Status: Regular

the best way to revise is to actually learn the work
throughout the year, if you don't know it now you won't.
exams are a load of balls.

offline SValx from United Kingdom on 2005-06-08 10:39 [#01626664]
Points: 2586 Status: Regular

Hmm, don't think that's strictly true. I got a U in my
physics mock and been doing a little bit every day for the
past week and now I'm getting high As on every paper.
Cramming is the best form of revision for me as I said
before, I work and learn best under pressure. You can learn
a lot throughout the year but you need to revise last minute
too, to refresh everything in your head. You can't remember
EVERYTHING you have learnt throughout the whole year for
four subjects with no last minute revision!

Yeah, I tend to cram. Sometimes it works, and sometimes I
wish I had actually paid attention during the year.

with a giant brain at your disposal is the best bet :D

revising.

Oh you fools, the only way, the ONLY WAY of getting away
from distractions is by getting away from distractions!!!

I've been at the library every day this week, there is
NOTHING exciting or interesting there and its a mission to
get back home in order to access exciting stuff, so I stay
cos its too much effort to do otherwise. I just cant revise
at home, period. I tried last night and I ended up
dismantling my guitar to see whats inside.

now I have a choice to watch something interesting on tv for
the next hour or revise. I think I'll do both. I already
know I'll be concentrating on one more than the other.

haha, that's brilliant. Sounds like the sort of bizzare
activities I get up to as an excuse for not revising..."oh,
at least it's not the internet" I'll say to myself. Yes it
isn't the interent, but it's just as fucking useless!

i find myself doing housework, tidying my room etc. i keep
telling myself i will get started after i have done whatever
task, but then end up doing something else. on saturday i
went into town to buy myself a new calculator, just to
escape the pressure of doing work. still haven't used the
calculator.

the best way of getting schoolwork done i found was going
over to my mum's house, where she is on dial-up. kept me
away from tinternet.

if i were in library i couldnt concentrate because i would
be tempted to go look for the books full of mythalogical
animals and crummy maps made when people thought the earth
was flat...but maybe thats just me...

the best way to revise is write all of one topic on an egg.

Well... I haven't had that urge yet, books kinda make me
sick right now. But I admit I failed today, worked for a
couple of hours, then had the urge to track down the best
ice-cream snack in town. It took me ages to decide it wasnt
very productive.

It was a solero: exotic btw, and it was too icy. All in all
5/10, disapointing.

I agree with the comment about the library. I seem to manage
reading random occultic books for hours instead of the more
neccessary, down-to-earth revision books.

my IT exam turned out OK. I started revising at 11 and
finished at 1. Had to get up at 8 and took 10 minutes at the
end of the exam to rest my eyes.
