I have seen the original version and loved it, but I've
heard not-so-great things about the director's edition.
Should I buy it or just get the theatrical version?

i personally think the director's cut is better, it explains
the whole plot alot more clearly, as well as including some
real important bits that were absurdly cut from the
theatrical release. if ur really not sure, rent the
director's cut and see if you like it better or not.

I prefer the original.

i have watched the DC only once and enjoyed it very much,
but it does not replace the original film.

i suppose the DC is mainly interesting for those who are
more interested in the scientific side of DD. many people
complained that the DC lacks a lot of the emotion that the
original had, and i can understand why.

You could try reading 'the philosophy of time travel' before
watching the DC, if you're interested in that sort of
stuff.

i'll find you a link in a bit.

people always bum on about directors cuts. whats the point,
a film is the way it is because it is the way it is and if
it wasn't the way it is it wouldn't be the way it is.

LAZY_TIMETRAVEL

in a shitty layout but oh well the text is there.

if i remember correctly, the great Jarworski (i miss this
guy on the board) sent me the 'book' pages on soulseek a
long time ago, but they are on a different puter..

yeah so most of the 'science' in this film was made up to
suite the film
true.

i have no idea what you're talking about.

the DC is an entirely different film in some respects and it
is VERY interesting for 'fans' to compare the two.

i can see why the director wanted an alternate cut, and i
can see why it isn't the only film that he decided to make.

there's no wrong or right here.

I enjoyed the Director's Cut, but I remember there being a
ridiculous visual effect during the end sequence which
wasn't in the original (I can't recall exact details, but it
was bloody awful.)

well, there was the big eye-with-diliating pupil thing, but
it wasnt that bad.

No I don't mean that. I quite liked that.

It was right at the end...the whole end sequence. Like a
really bad sort of "mesh" over the whole end sequence.

Gah.

In the commentary the director makes it clear several times
that the directors cut is not the "definitive version", they
are stand alone, and companion pieces. I definitely prefer
the original version. The directors cut is a lot more
spelled out, less mystery involved.
