after hearing the mind blowing Hecker set last thursday, I
am looking to get into what is generally considered as
NOISE. I have Merzbow - Pulse Demon, but am looking for the
best noise artists around. Who are they? And is Hecker any
good on record?

Thanks

wrong Hecker.

anyhow:
Joe Colley/Crawl Unit
Kevin Drumm
Prurient
Daniel Menche
Pita
Lasse Marhaug
Zbigniew Karkowski
Julien Ottavi (try to find Nervure Magnetique, and possibly
check out the collaboration with Dion Workman that is coming
out this month... it's called Misenlian)
Mattin (seek out Gora)

a lot of these aren't "balls out noise" because i'm not that
huge a fan of that... but they are all more on the "digi"
end with the possible exception of prurient... which seems
to be what you're after given that it was hecker as opposed
to say: some american noise rocker type (ie Hair Police, or
Wolf Eyes) that you were diggin'

My alltime favorite is Hijokaiden, just for the sheer
creepiness factor. Asmorod is also great. Not pure noise but
it's there. Just wicked thick sound.

try listening to v/vm.

well not v/vm themselves, they usually suck at noise...but
listen to a v/vm label compilation, it will usually have
some good noise on there.

No-one has mentioned Pole, although if it isn't noise then
it must be close.

I've been listening a lot lately and find them very
relaxing. Check out tracks like Tanzen, Berlin, etc.

if Fennesz is noise, then Bad Sector is noise, too.
try a track called "Ahir"

fennesz is more.. drone, no?
genres are boring

maybe not drone.. just some noisy ambient. drone is what
should be read on wikipedia about. I remember there has to
be a constant hum, or drone - long repeated note, over which
other layers of music develop. This is very old "genre", and
has been "popular" among oriental singers, musicians..
India, China, and that direction.

Fennezs has more harmony in his music, from what I've
heard.

But genres are boring. Check out Bad Sector anyway. He is
not discussed here, I would like to see what others think of
his music..

Pole is pretty good, but the songs are not varied enough

fennesz has "noise" in his music but lots of melody,
tenderness too, yes hecker "pv treks" is awesome (on
headphones its pretty strong), so are farmersmanual & many
of the mego crew. from what i've heard "live" one of the
best noise/sound artist may be richard d james (under the
influence of F.Hecker i'd say..)

i hope you guys aren't insinuating that "noise" is
necessarily "non-melodic"... i'd say fennesz teeters between
noise and ambient, depending on the moment...

spot on, i'm listening now for the first time to fennesz and
i really like the style.

Ambient melodic...noise?
