Would you buy a DAT format walkman style recorder? You
know the Sony ones for around $800?

Is there anything better today in a portable format? I.e.
something tapeless, or is DAT still the way to go?

the quality is good, but the price is what sucks. i've
considered buying DAT gear before (the portable ones), but i
figured digital recording would be best.

Right. It is expensive. But it actually is digital, even
though it uses tape. That's the part that I don't like.

DAT just doesn't seem worth it anymore, given the price.
