erm....all music which isn't black music? there really isn't any defined white music because if you define it then you are putting it in a seperate category and showing that there is a distinct line between white and black music. just like calling a white person 'white' is never done, whilst many people refer to 'black people' |

No, I don't agree, it depends on the context. The term Black music is a legitimate one, Black music awards, the history of black music etc. But saying "When I hear black music coming out of cars... it's like they have to prove something to us" is entirely different. Are you referring to hearing Jazz dead loud on the streets of Loughton? Blues? No, you're not refering to "Black Music" in broad terms, you just mean hip hop or RnB but using a lazy term, and on a board devoted to discussing music, that isn't really very helpful nor an encouraging sign that you're going to be saying anything much of interest. I'm not a hand wringing liberal worried about political correctness at all, but I really don't like the young element on this board continuly using the terms "us and them". |

black music is music aroused by the activity or emotion of black people. simply put. rap/hiphop can be so diverse now a days, i dont think you can really call it mainly "Black" music anymore - but it originates from afro-american culture and is still dominated by afro-americans. r&b/soul is predominantly black, as is funk. aint famous like they used to be, at least not in america. theyre black music. its not racist to recognize it as 'black music'. where i live, dallas tx, there is lots of racial tension. if i walk into a restaurant, even if i am wearing a tie and a suit, i will be looked at as dangerous by a white person. hispanics and latinos too. the races are pretty much segregated in the city, the only hope is really the elementary/high schools where all the colors of kids come together. public schools and stuff. |
