do you like his music ? personnaly i've hear music for 18
musicians, which is supposed to be his best piece of music,
but i don't think it's very good ; in the same style, I
prefer philip glass

I made a thread about him fairly recently.

I find most of Philip Glass' stuff to be very boring.
There's nothing musically clever about some of the stuff he
has done, and neither is it emmotionally engaging. Sorry if
you're a fan of his...if you like his stuff, all the power
to you.

I love Music for 18 Musicians! It's great to relax to and
there's a lot of patterns and interesting things going on if
you want to pay attention to it.

no way sir. music for mallet instruments, voices and organ,
six marimbas, drumming..and pendulum music shit on anything
mr glass has done. interestingly philip glass was originally
born philip wagner but he was renamed philip glass because
he really really liked glass.

I heard a piece by Phillip Glass a while ago which consisted
of nothing but simple minor-key arpeggios going around and
around for ages with minimal changes occuring. I forgot its
name. While that is the nature of minimalist music, I find
that Steve Reich makes things a lot more catchy and
interesting on the whole....for example, listen to
"Different Trains". I love the way old war-time voice
samples are used and the kronos quartet copy the shape of
the phrases, while general train hissing and screaching
sounds come in and out. I just find his stuff a lot more
surprising and interesting than Glass' music.

don't think it's very good? it's hard to imagine anyone
who's interested in minimalism/pulse/electronic music having
that opinion, but to each their own i suppose.

phillip glass to me is by contrast too melodramatic and
predictable. i like some of his work (string quartets,
collaboration with ravi shankar) but steve reich gets my
vote by far.

ok, i'm gonna listen to this piece ; nevertheless i don't
find music for 18 musicians bad, i like it but i only find
it a bit overrated probably

If I'm in the mood I can really zone out to it, If not I
usually stear clear, Drumming is my Reich album of choice
and I guess Music in 12 parts has to be my favourite Glass.

I haven't. Perhaps it would change my mind about him...

I haven't heard much of his stuff tbh, but what I did hear
wasn't that inspiring.

Avro Part is a religious minimlaist-styled composer, but his
music is absolutely stunning.
