It been quite a few years that I have been a board member here at Xltronic, and for quite a lot of that time I have enjoyed myself very much. From the days I'd incite fun and laughter with the likes of Amonbrune and Pachi, the lightsaber avatars that quite a lot of us had, to the more recent times where I was made moderator....all of which those have now come to an end. When I first came to Xltronic, I knew next to nothing about electronica, but my good friend CeriJC encouraged me to post here despite the fact, because he said it was generally a great place. Over time and with the help of many other board members I eventually got myself into the music. I guess in many ways it was kind of dumb at the time, but creating a topic entitled something like "Am I the only one that hates IDM" didnt really do me any favours from the outset, but alas it was a quirk of the online personality that I would post with. What I really, really do not understand is, the sheer hatred that is found in certain board members, and they know who they are. Some have a lot of history here very much like myself, others are relatively new, but even though I perhaps tended to incite flaming upon occassion, the fact that individuals could be so nasty is beyond my comprehension. I don't even know these people in real life!! This is just a messageboard!! There is more to life than that, and this is one of the reasons that coming to Xltronic in the past months has not been the enjoyable experience it once was. It's being trashed by the trolls and spammers. Sure I did my fair share, but now I fear things are out of control. But think about it, I can come up with a list at least a dozen long of people how have been driven away from this place because of the shit, and I'm sure one of two of you can think of more than that! |

Some of you are probably wondering what has happened in the past few days, with this so called 'banfest'....well allow me to shed some light on the matter. I haven't through one reason or another been coming here so often, and spent a bit of time here at the end of last week. To cut a long story short, it seems that there are/were a few board members that enjoy every opportunity to try and insult me, challenge my authority as a moderator and generally act like twats when I am around, and to be absolutely honest, I just thought to myself "What is the point of any of this crap, don't these people give up?" and I'll let you into a secret: Why did I do it? It bothered me slighty and I did it on a whim, because I felt like it! And I'm also not sorry for it either. I glanced down the list of online users, and went "ban ban ban..." and so on, and also did one or two others as well. Tridenti, Epohs both of which sadly got in the way with their spamming or insults, and I have since heard from and/or spoken to, and I have no hard feelings over them, were. Also, I have explained to Woofer that it was me that closed all of his topics, and I have given him my reasons for which he accepts. It hasn't all been bad, I have made some great friends here also who I have had the pleasure of meeting up with in real life, such as Yves (eXXailon) and Jon (The Funkmaster), both without this place I would never have met, and will not despite this, forget that. Just a few thanks before I finish: Yves (eXXailon), thank you more than anyone here for getting me into electronica, it meant an aweful lot to me, and we'll continue to speak on MSN and I look forward to seeing you in the summer. Jon (The Funkmaster), well I guess you won't see this as you too were driven from here also, but I always enjoyed the banter between us both here and the way in which you from time to time stuck up for me among the trolls. One day I'll get to see you in Newfoundland!! ;) |

Nacmat, I am so glad we had our chat yesterday. I owed you the truth....you may not be totally impressed with what I did, but the fact that we will remain friends means a lot to me - see you on MSN! You've been a great friend to me and perhaps one day we will also meet in real life! Woofer, keep an eye on the trolls for me and report them to the moderators. well if he never came around often anyway, i doubt it will impact the board much, but i never had a problem with him, just though he was kind of confrontational with some members for no reason - we all give each other shit here, there are no exceptions. you just give it right back - you dont have to go on a ban spree, or threaten the ban at every whim. |
