Analord clipping?

I only get clipping issues on select tracks. I'm starting
to think that Richard was putting too much bass into certain
things and didn't notice.

example:

the end of Crying In Your Face

&

most of Snivel Chew

There are more, but I cant remember right now.

shit! I thought this would be about a collection of
newspaper clippings concerning the Analord series!

one can only begin to imagine the shock you must have felt

I find the vocoder bits in fenix funk 5 are waaay too loud,
especially when they first come in.

Its my vinyl. I have all the levels set slightly under any
red lights/clipping points when recording. Most songs sound
perfect, but then theres those (listed above) that are just
terrible.

I did actually soil myself upon reading that.

And I think Jivvo has a point too. I have the vinyl but no
record player (to use old parlance) so I've not heard the
fuckers as they were meant to be heard (apparently on vinyl
they're completely different).

I am drunk so I will say something random like I've just
wanked into a cup, just to... oh god....

I don't have any problems with any of them on my deck
though, while it's not great, it's not rubbish either. And,
to be fair, I've not played them all on my deck.
Maybe your stylus is in need of replacement, or the
whatchamacallit needs callibrating, or the dilithium
crystals need re-energising into the reverse flux induction
matrix.

I'm listening to Phontacid and it sounds cherry. I really
think its the recordings.

Isn't there anyone on this board that owns Analord and can
actually listen to it?

On analord 2, the short track with the steady 1,2,3,4 beat
clips the most out of all of them.

yes, I love the rdjames album but it does clip (on various
cd players, headphones, and speakers) which is a bit
annoying in some tracks.

I don't think rich gives a shit about releases.

BWOON DUB

it's been dubbed over another track
you can hear the old track in the background at certain
parts
i wouldnt expect it to be pristenequalitym8

clipping.

maybe richie is using squarewaves

A lot of people purposefully clip their analogue equipment.
Analogue distortion is supposed to feel warm and add
harmonics.

i'm listening to the series on a nice table with shure e5c
headphones, which are the audio equivalent of VR goggles.
that said, the only clipping I notice are at the beginning
of fenix funk, and the bass in breath march is clipped all
the way through, but since that track is the standout i'd
have to say it's intentional. I notice no clipping on any
other tracks mentioned here.

not at home at the moment, but i'll re-listen specifically
for that next time since you mentioned it. there IS a lot of
bass in that tune...

no clipping here at home, what do you mean exactly by
"clipping"?

because digitally speaking it's awful and rarely
intentional

analog clipping on the other hand produces harmonic
distortion and compress the signal by overdriving the amp,
there is a full range of subtle transformation until it
sounds really "distorted" it is very often done on purpose
as mentioned and can't be really separated from the timbre
of track

so what are you hearing exactly? maybe it's you sound card?
digital mixer?

cd's mastered to 0dB can and will clip on low quality
players, maybe that is what you experience with the rdj lp
cd? dunno, i'll have to check mine

I will post a snippet of the Laricheard song when I get
home. But it sounds like track when you have way too much
reverb or bass and it gets all crackly and crunchy sounding.

Meh, everything sounds fine when I play them. You've done
this sound shite before...this or that clips...when I lookit
at on the spectrum thingy it goes a funny colour, blah blah
blah. Just enjoy the fucking music as it is intended.

offline CS2x from London (United Kingdom) on 2005-05-17 11:32 [#01602442]
Points: 5079 Status: Lurker

The first track off the rdjames album ("4" I think) has
loads of clipping, on all cd players and headphones I've
tried. It's in the actual recording.

offline ecnadniarb on 2005-05-17 11:33 [#01602446]
Points: 24805 Status: Lurker | Followup to tolstoyed: #01602437 | Show recordbag

Because even if it does (I honestly haven't noticed it,
everything has sounded great) it can add character. There
are a number of things that could be causing the clipping,
especially as he implies it is occuring during recording to
the computer which he appears to be manually setting the
level for. Such as what is amping the source single?, the
quality of the stylus, the quality of the deck itself and
how much his crack heads momma is yelling in the background.
