so i mastered my cd, but when listening to it on a less
good cd player it still sounds a bit muffled though there
wasnt digital clipping on my initial waves. also this track
that doesnt go over -0,2db sounds alright i believe. also i
extracted the wavs from drukqs and noticed none of the
tracks go over 9 on my vu/ppm meter in soundforge.
questions:
should i master to -0,2 db for consideration of people with
bad stereo's (drukqs goes to 0)? i really dont want to cause
ive now mastered most tracks to 0 db and turning the volume
down makes it sound less good imo.
am i not allowed to go over a certain vu/ppm level (and is
this for bad stereos too)? cause im proud to say my track
woop goes upto 15 :D

I don't know what the hell VU/PPM is, at all. But, as
long as you've mastered it so it's not clipping and
distorting all over the place it should be fine i think,
crap cd players just sound a bit crap.

it's loudness
having the same peaks you can still make a track sound alot
louder..

all this stuff is kinda depressing cause i dont know what
the heck im doing. paul white pocket sized book 'basic
mastering' doesnt help much either
i have a 200 page pdf on mastering dance music with 'waves'
it still need to read

Yikes. I haven't the foggiest then old boy, is this
something to do with compression? It's technical gubbins
like this i just drown in, but if you're trying to get a few
cds pressed then i suppose you want it just right. Many of
the tracks i've had from you have been über-loud, but i
honestly wouldn't worry about it all that much. I dunno,
maybe it's not worth your time obsessing over The Listening
Experience of people with terrible audio gear anyway. Fuck
'em.

-0.2db is quite a subtle difference from mastering at 0db
though, i doubt anyone apart from you would be able to
notice without listening out for it.

0,2db of course dont matter too much
but ive decided not to make these changes in the blind, like
turning off bass in the low while i cant hear it on my
stereo for example

i do want to get it 'right' as you said, someone here is
bound to know this though

the uberloud track is woop, because the original wave was
clipping allover, i think, it looks really compressed in
soundforge and i could turn the volume up alot more again
:)

tracks that i make now are somewhat more in control

ít's the normal compression on the whole track as well as
eq and normalization, limiting and maximizing or whatever
with waves l2

Yeah, i'm sure somebody out there will know... i imagine
there's a lot of "tips and tricks" with mastering to get the
sound you're after but i'm not the guy to ask really. I just
go by ear with stuff like EQ and limiting certain
frequencies and all that. I think some of the cleaning up
you can do involves making certain tones don't "conflict"
with each other, having too similar a frequency or something
but i'm far from sure. I've not noticed your tracks sounding
particularly muddy though, so i don't know how much that
applies.

tnx

the muddyness is from too loud mostly deepspace, also the
stereo is wrong with my old tracks, that was corrected
pretty easy though
