Today at college we watched a documentary about how gilles
deleuze influenced so many people with this book. Among some
interviewed people were composer David Shea (never heard of
him but he seems to make very cool music) and dj spooky. The
documentary also featured music by aphex twin and
squarepusher. Pretty nice to wake up to!

Apparently, this book is really something. Although it's
said to be quite difficult to read, i'm sure someone here
has.

Let me know! In the meantime, i'll go find some links.

haven't read Mille Plateaux, but i've read a fair amount of
Deleuze and Guattari... stuff on Minor Literature... very
interesting... i ought to try Mille Plateaux some time soon,
i've probably spent enough time with theory jargon now that
it wouldn't be too bad of a read... but yeah, there's a
compilation which is basically a tribute to Deleuze kickin'
about somewhere... i think it's on Sub Rosa... pretty much
all electronic, if i'm not mistaken...

here we go:

FOLDS & RHIZOMES for GILLES DELEUZE
mouse on mars /

david shea / tobias hazan
SR99

original works

folds and rhizomes: 50 minutes of the purest music we have
ever released, original material especially commisioned for
this project featuring mouse on mars, scanner, oval, main,
hazan+shea.

folds and rhizomes for gilles deleuze

naturally every release is important to us - but sometimes
we have a feeling of particular urgency and importance.
folds and rhizomes for gilles deleuze is one of these
instances. for various reasons - not least of which is the
fact that it was thanks to deleuze that sub rosa ever came
into existence; that what is presented here was conceived
for him by people whose works was profoundly inspired by his
liberating ideas, and that it was thanks to the unending
dialogue with him that everything materialised - we find
ourselves today with the curious impression that it was
almost deleuze himself who produced this release. the story
is all the more painful for the fact that this disc was
intented as a surprise for him and that he chose to die
before its completion. let it not be mistaken for a tribute.
this is a living work for the living ideas of someone named
gilles deleuze.

mille plateaux

"obviously, this is not an official tribute to this great
figure, one
of the foremost philosoph of our time. It is only the
fraternal salute of a few people who admire him deeply, and
who where once helped in their lives and in their creations
by his work. deleuze, you have given us so much
encouragement, so many signs of friendship, that this is the
slightest thing we could express to you." from the sleeve
notes. september 1995
this summarizes the feeling about this album when it was
first released in 1996, of course, a few years later
deleuze
is still present in our minds and hearts.

gilles deleuze french philosopher,
born in paris1925-1995.

well, you should start with Anti-Oedipus; Capitalism and
Schizophrenia first. Its a precursor to A Thousand
Plateaus...., though equally difficult and as completely
non-linear.
