For the first time i've been to an extremely cool music
act.
detali zvuku. it's been very loud and hi-end sounding.
Besides ukrainian artists, both new and known to me, there
were some bands and performers from other countries, notably
Staalplaat Soundsystem from Germany/Netherlands,
F.R.U.I.T.S. from Russia, Franz Pomassl from Austria and
visual artists akuvido from Germany/Ukraine, who use
sounds by Kotra and perform with him. They were excellent,
btw. People closed their ears with hands.

F.R.U.I.T.S. played excellent - i recommend them!!! two
40-something men from Moscow, they rocked, and had the best
video from Roman Anikushin..

Franz Pomassl - well, very well noise with interesting live
performance including intensive plug and wire feedbacked
with mouth, ears, tables and hands of closest listeners.

Staalplaat - what to say. Geniuses. They performed on
Yokomono soundsystem - 9 or 10 toy cars riding on vynils. At
last I've seen it myself.

It was very good, now i know what it's like. For ~9 euros.
Hehehe. Why pay more. How much does Glade cost?

They've had a second part of the fest, where more
techno-oriented people performed, but I don't know if they
were any good because I escaped home after all experimental
artists finished performing.

Pity I haven't had a camera with me, and can't find any
photos over the net yet.

akuvido audio-visual program called Nebenainander 1.3
screenshot (left channel soundbank).
It's a flash program with sounds by Kotra. Released as a cd
on Staalplaat. I have bought it, damn consumerism.

Visual part is different squares which rapidly move in
different ways, in accordance with their sound. It went very
well with their performance, because these squares pricked
eyes as well as sound pricked ears.

Merzbow-like sound terror. Even more frightening.

there were noise, glitch, ambient, idm, electro-acoustic
improvising artists, and a modern composer woman Alla
Zagaykevich, with a crazy violin player Sergey Okhrimchuk,
who together performed something hard to get.

pictures, and festival designs were all made by akuvido
(Anna Kuts and Viktor Dovhalyuk), who are crazy designers
and often make Kotra album covers and crazy interactive
flash+sound netprojects (sounds by Kotra, always). Check out
stadt soundstation.

I'm really happy for you guys in Ukraine. It seems like a
lot of good stuff is happening, with politics and
creativity!

thanks!
i'm not sure about politics, because I lack knowledge to
tell something precise about it, but something definitely
happens in the field of experimental music and I like
that!!!

Experimental music is unfortunate.

i don't know any of those acts, looks like a cool place
though.. what is surprising is such a small crowd (judging
on pics) for a city like kiew..i thought we had it bad
overhere..

last night i went to see dalek, mono and oddateee..was nice.

tolstoyed, you may have heard Andrey Kirichenko and Zavoloka
at least. I suppose :) Crowd was rather big - minimum 200
people, and sometimes more people came in from outside, i
think there were 400 of them in the peaks. The hall was not
very big, but biggest of those i've been to, and if more
people came, we'd have lack of oxygene and free space:)
people could lay on the floor, dance, sit, stand the way
they wanted. The hall is designed for fashion shows, with
the catwalk in the middle, and Staalplaat performed on the
end of this catwalk:)

darkpromenade --> i bet you'll have something like that,
Australia is better than Ukraine. you have BDO at least.
Though it is not noise oriented, of course, but Aphex
performed there, i have heard.

ah right! im sure about zavoloka, i have a bunch of her
mp3s!

that place looks much bigger, and 200 or 400 isn't all that
much for a 10 (?) million city :) we get more than that
overhere for festivals like that and we're a city of
300.000..hmm

no 10 million :) just around 3 and a half. Four, if to count
all the city visitors who live outside the city but work in
Kiev.

Anyway, it's not a lot of people, of course. Maybe not many
people like such music, and I know two persons who wanted to
come to the fest but one of them went fishing instead and
another one was just lazy. Next year will be more! If xlt
people do come:)))

uh oh! got that all wrong :)

is there a line up for next year already? i think xlt ppl
are very elitist and if you don't get rdj or ae to play i
doubt they'd be up for it :)

no lineup yet:) the first fest took place only two days ago
so we have to wait for 360something days.
but I guess nexsound won't invite ae or aphex cause they
don't have enough money yet and because these guys will look
less experimental among the absolutely crazy performers.
