Is he referring to the Godfather of IDM and master of the
Light Synth, Jean Micheal Jarre, perhaps?

Oxygene and Equinox are brilliant albums. Beatiful melodic
analog stuff. And "Zoolook" was one of the first albums to
use sampling in a big way; it's fucking nuts but also worth
checking out.

I will now stop talking about that cheesy french person.

Yes. To be honest, I used to be a massive Jean Michel Jarre
fan, and I have all his albums, from Oxygene to Aero.

In fact, before I got into IDM I mainly listened to the
1970s people, such as Jarre, Vangelis, Tangerine Dream,
Kraftwerk, Klaus Schultz, Tomita etc.

YES SAME. oops actually i listened to electronic music like
that thanks to my dad, then went through a lame indie phase,
but just got into IDM on the off chance, my mate had an
aphex cd at school and i listened to it and i blew my beans
there and then.

Briliant, glad you were rescued! ;-)

I was raised on a strictly classical diet by my dad, which I
actually really appreciate. Then I discovered Jean Michel
Jarre by accident when I was around 11, and he also happened
to like it (because it had quite a few classical elements.)
After going through that phase (of early electronic music),
Aphex/Autechre/Orbital and co seemed like the logical
conclusion.
However, the early stuff still impresses me.

"je me souvions" has been hated by everyone I showed it to.
I really love it, however. It's increadably quirky and
catchy, and the "lyrics" make no sense. I wouldn't call it
pop! A bit too strange and off beat for that.

Fair enough. It's from his album "Metamorphosis", which
wasn't very recieved (but it's one of my favorites. I have
strange taste.)

Get a track off Oxygene 7-13; Oxygene 12 is a masterpiece.
Very dark and powerful. I think you'll like it. ;-)

The Jacob's Ladder soundtrack, my mate had that, there's one
bit that used to frighten the fuck out of us. That and the
Aliens soundtrack (though not by Maurice). Dr Zchivagho
(spelling?) as well, I think he did.

I thought you meant other people. Have you ever slapped you
girlfriends bottom with an accordian player going nuts on
the accordian in Paris after you've been to the moulin rouge
and all the sex district, bought some 'costumes' and fallen
asleep to the very same accordian player?
