cubase sx because it doesn't have limitations to only few
synths and effects, like reason. you can record wavs with
cubase, something that isn't possible in reason.

cubase sx sequencer is better, more advanced. though i don't
know how much propellerheads improved theirs for reason 3.

and what's most important: reason doesn't support vsts which
is a major -

do you have any hardware that you want to use? do you want
to record audio live (rather than sampling)? if so, cubase.

otherwise, i'd go with reason.

but then again, it sort of depends on what you want to use
the software for as well. what do you want to use the
software for? what kind of music are you wanting to make?

for hardware i have:

a m-audio 61 key station
eventually an alesis drum machine. (which i intend to use
to tap beats into a sequencer...and experiment with when not
using my computer.

i'd like to make drum and bass venetian snares style. or
ambient stuff

yes if you're only going to legitimatley purchase things
then buy Reason as you'll get more bang for your buck.

well its 500 bucks or 450. i was just wondering since cubase
was a hundred more if i should just go...for broke. and use
that. but i checked out the reason demo and it seems cool

i'd say cubase sx but i am biased. perhaps cubase se because
its cheaper and then you have money to buy something else,
piece of hardware, softsynths, a shiny new bike, etc

Go for cubase. If you want to run your synths through your
computer, you can do that with Cubase. WIth reason, you will
have to buy a separate program to run your synths and record
them.

Reason doesn't have a midi controller. Also, the synths are
pretty limited, and it doesn't sound professional at all.
Cubase allows you to control and record and add effects to
any synthesizers samplers or drum machines that you have.

Personally, I don't see how their can be any debate.
Although Reason is more user friendly, and won't really take
you any time at all to learn.

How in the hell do you get more bang for your buck with
reason?

I would take ableton over reason. The included insts and
effects are great. Plus clip editing is fucking fun fun
fun.

Im ditching my apps, getting a little powerbook 12 and
ableton. And thats gonna be it for me (except for free vsts.
i love those)

Yeah. Now that I think about it, I would probly suggest
ableton over cubase and reason too.

i use both... you use cubase as you master system and use
rewire to slave reason... reason alone can be limiting but
you can't live with out it

Actually, if you are using audition, you can probly use the
rewire capacities of it to run reason, so you get your
recording and such down. I don't know about using it to run
a drum machine though. I guess thats what global is for.

i use cubase sx

because i am used to it & know what to do to do what i want
to do!

a lot of people are digging ableton live though

reason - does it have such a good mixdown quality?

offline Taxidermist from Black Grass on 2005-05-06 17:46 [#01590322]

No. Its pretty shit with rendering. Thats why you need
something like Cubase or Vstack to render it with.
