Though saying that, all Analord tracks sound like Analord.
And I think these samples certainly sound like Analord.

I will shut up about it now.

I guess we'll find out in about a month or so. The whole
fake/real stuff is getting pretty tedious by now.

i see you point there mr. but.. i actually think it's pretty
entertaining to see how people easily make fakes that
hardcore fanboys cannot tell is real or not.

Hey! I'll give you mr but...

I must say, if it's not real, then the guy who made it has
expertly forged the analord style. I'm hoping it's genuine,
cause it sounds good. If it appears not to be, then I
hope the trickster reveals himself with the full tracks, all
.zipped up and ready to go.

the GUTS to release this without his own name attached, no
fucker wouldv'e bought this because.. well, it's rubbish.

i don't understand what he's trying to achieve, some kind of
retro update on an old skool sound? well it doesn't work. in
fact, it's bordering on insulting. very poor.

I know there's far too much Analord talk but it is
weird, I veer from thinking it's quite ace to not really
knowing. I put them on and there's something "unsatisfying"
about them, they sound like demos or something a mate
did.... they're all variations of Mr Fingers "Can U Feel
it", but not as good. They're good but I find them
hard to love.

that is exactly what i said. it's pointless music, you will
never listen to it in a year, it will not stand up to
similar new or old music of the same style. basically, it's
fucking bollocks and i want my money back. the only
erdeeming feature is that i WILL get my money back, probably
thricefold. but it's not entertaining nor enjoyable. sorry.

offline dog_belch from Netherlands, The on 2005-05-05 17:21 [#01588593]

It's lamentable that they'll probably become "classics" due
to collectiability, rather than because of the actual music.
I don't wish to suggest Mr Twin shouldn't release all this,
but you do have to wonder how these tracks would've fared if
they were presented as an album or under an unknown name.

It's like when you talk to some sound engineer or metal
virtuoso guitarist that says it's so easy to make "dance
music", yet could they really pull it of if it's so simple?
It takes more than technical ability, in some ways
less - if anything, Analord goes to show that Mr Twin
probably can't convincingly do straight up "dance music", or
pop for that matter.

Windowlicker was pretty dancey!

Oh I agree, I'm not making myself that clear. I'm not even
sure if I'm right, but if I am listening to a mix of classic
techno, house, acid, new and old, and then drop in an
Analord, it doesn't sound all that great in comparison. But
that might not be the right approach.

offline impakt from where we do not speak of! on 2005-05-05 17:33 [#01588613]
Points: 5764 Status: Lurker | Followup to dog_belch: #01588593 | Show recordbag

I dont think the analords was supposed to be "straight up
dance music" or pop. It's simply melodic aphex-acid.

offline staz on 2005-05-05 17:33 [#01588614]
Points: 9844 Status: Regular

I think Analord is meant as a more... trying to do newer
sounding, melodic type stuff on old gear thing. Just looking
at newer music through the analogue hardware perspective or
something. I guess that makes it sound a bit primitive and
repetitive, but I respect it for what it is. Definitely far
from the best he's ever made, but it's a cool idea and it's
got some neat tracks! Especially Analord 10. Mmm, Analord
10.

it's aphex twin! it's rubbish! :)

yes you do expect something special from him... and why
not??? but this is not special, nor is it even enjoyable.
no, it's crap.

Points: 5764 Status: Lurker | Followup to staz: #01588614 | Show recordbag

I totally agree, it's working within limits and trying to
get the best out of it. It's obviously not going to be as
technical as digitally overprogrammed goodness(drukqs), but
it's certainly not bas and it has that classic aphex feel
over it.

Mmmmm, Analord!

No, you're both right, I do agree. I don't want to go down
the fundamentalist pro/anti Analord path as it goes nowhere,
I'm just trying to work out, you know, maybe what it is I
like and what I'm not that impressed with RE Analord. Bottom
line IMO: a few very good tracks, a few more not so.

It's hard not to treat them as a bit more significant than
any normal "dance" record as it is RDJ and there are 11 of
the fuckers in quick succesion. Maybe for me it'll all
become clear in time when they've filtered down.

offline staz on 2005-05-05 17:41 [#01588625]
Points: 9844 Status: Regular | Followup to earthleakage: #01588616

Technically, it can't compare to records like Drukqs/Come to
Daddy/RDJ/HAB/blahblah, but like impakt is saying, I guess
the concept is about exploiting the fact that you're
confined, equipment-wise. Of course, it might just be that
he's gone with "Fuck off, I'm using old gear to make some
really primitive music! THEN I'LL MAKE THE RELEASES LIMITED
AND EXPENSIVE AND BOUND IN LEATHER SURGICALLY REMOVED FROM
MY PENIS TO PISS XLTRONIC POSTERS OFF AND READ THEIR NAGGING
ON THE INTERNET!"

But anyway, it's a fun experiment! Too bad he didn't just
cut the fat and release a compilation at once.

offline dog_belch from Netherlands, The on 2005-05-05 17:41 [#01588626]
Points: 15098 Status: Addict | Show recordbag

Even 'leakage is right though as well, it's just not, to me,
enjoyable. It's all a bit... academic. There's no
"Come on you cunts...", it's all quite muted.

offline staz on 2005-05-05 17:44 [#01588631]
Points: 9844 Status: Regular | Followup to dog_belch: #01588626

That's a good point, it's mostly quite muted music. But some
of the tracks have that primal AFX energy too them, I think.
Fenix Funk 5, XMD5A, Lisbon Acid, Klop Job, Steppingfilter
101 and a few others have that charm I've been longing to
hear since Drukqs. ESPECIALLY ANALORD 10 OH I LOVE YOU SO
*ejaculation*

offline dog_belch from Netherlands, The on 2005-05-05 17:45 [#01588635]
Points: 15098 Status: Addict | Show recordbag

But surely RDJ was "confined" in the early days. And then
struggling against the limitations of the equipment, like
all good pioneers made discoveries into uncharted music
waters. Artificially limiting yourself..., it can't work the
same I don't think.

Yeah, but I guess analogue gear has a specific quality that
he finds charming or something... Maybe that's why the
releases are so limited, maybe it's like an analogue
hardware-fan circlejerk. Oh well, it's still interesting
music.
