I'm planning to love it even if it sucks.

Dawn is the gold standard of zombie horror. Can it be topped
or equaled?

I fear that this will never be as good as Dawn because
movies simply cannot be as transgressive today. Oh sure the
remake of Dawn had a zombie baby but that was like "OMG/WTF
ZOMBIE BABY!!!111ELEVEN"

Whereas in Dawn and Night you had the scene with the zombie
girl eating her folks like it was the most natural thing in
the world, or the zombie nun - why should that be a big
deal, it's a zombie nun - or the immigrants in the projects
who were keeping their reanimated dead relatives hidden out
of some misguided religious idea that they had been
resurrected or something. Or the black guy who survives
Night only to be shot by rednecks out a-shootin' dead
folks.

And all of that was unexaggerated or at least not used to
beat the audience over the head. But today that has to be
overplayed and overacted like *cough* *cough* "well
naturally Universal Pictures finds the idea of a dead woman
giving birth to a zombie baby reprehensible. We are deeply
shocked and disturbed by this horrific turn of events and
neither condone nor encourage the birth of living dead
babies."

Like everything's too politically incorrect now - religion,
death, race, class, social criticism, everything that worked
as subtext in the first two movies. So they make the zombies
smart instead, and it becomes a bug hunt like Aliens - no
deep brooding horror, just something jumping out of the dark
now and then.

Dude, you forgot Day. Day had a smart zombie....bub. Now,
before you come back and say day was horrible, i think it is
great i like it second best to dawn. It wasn't commercially
big b/c it had a little too much dialog, the budget itself
was cut towards the end of production lots of cuts were made
to the theatricle version, it didn't help that Return of the
living dead was released around the same time
either....returns one of my favorites too...not so much the
shitty sequals.

don't even compair the remake of dawn to this new one until
you've seen it. Dawn 04 was okay...it kinda missed all the
satire. i mean, when dawn 78 came out malls were pretty
much a new thing. one of my co-workers said at the time they
were just springing up and becoming popular. if they really
wanted to make a cool twist on dawn...they should have
looked at how big mall culture is today. basically have a
bunch of people trapped in a mall like the mall of
america...where anything you could possible think of is
there to use(kinda how malls use to be back in the day, now
we just have more junk to buy)...and they've been trapped
and have to fight their way out. would have been more
interesting and open for tons of comedy/satire. but no they
choose to pretty much copy the story, just cut out anything
thought provoking and place explosions here here and here
and have something sorta shocking as an zombie baby.

rest assured, in every romero movie there is a big zombie
feast, and i hope it makes me want to puke. This guy
did the visual effects. he has some bombs in the list, but
he also has some excellent stuff...a lot of excellent stuff
behind him. got his start with romero too in day.

I think the idea of 1 zombie leading an army of the undead
is kinda funny...ala bush brainless leader etc. maybe thats
the angle george is shooting for. it might not surpass dawn
but i hope this becomes the day of the dead we never got to
see...this is a movie for the fans AM

Looks very good. The 04 remake was a corker, as were the
original films.

Personally I frickin' loved the DOTD remake, I thought was
intense as hell. No satire or slyness, but somehow I made
do. I liked this trailer, good looking. Action packed but
you can make any minute long trailer seem like that, so who
knows. I'd be perfectly happy with something like DOTD04,
even if I don't learn anything from the experience.

looks quite hardcore. something about it though makes it
look like there's a high chance that it'll be shite.
