whoah!

that got fucked up.

rephrase: are taxi drivers stupid right-wing people who want
everything for free and can't stop talking about how useless
your job is compared to theirs everywhere or is it just
here?

what they were saying...

It's just in there, in here they just go with the longest
route in order to get to your chosen destination.

I do my damndest to never use public transport in the UK
unless I'm hammered. The cost of taxis is obscene, I refuse
to believe the myth "it's cheaper than buying a car" for the
normal person: A cheap runaround car, plus a years petrol,
servicing, etc. can be had for comfortably under £2K a
year. A 100 mile journey in a taxi is well over £70 round
here. So, assuming you do 50 miles a week on average, it's
cheaper to own a car. Plus you don't have to wait an hour
for your own car to turn up, listen to people with idiotic
views/inane music, etc. whilst you're in it.

Also, a hell of a lot of taxis nowadays don't actually have
"the knowledge" and you end up directing them every step of
the way, as you would a friend who hasn't been to your
destination before. So it's not like you can relax and read
a book.

I'm not opposed to the idea of public transport
(although you tend to encounter unpleasent people on it),
it's just that in the UK at least, the implementation is
piss-poor. Where I live, I would literally be stuck in town
at the weekend: no buses on sundays, no train station within
walking distance, £25 taxi to the nearest city with decent
rail links.

The only public transport that ever really impressed me were
the Paris Metro and the buses on Menorca (Spain).

Erm, sorry for going a bit off topic there. Transport is one
of my peeves.

no, they are not like that here. some of them are just too
much talkative as for me. But all of them curse a lot when
theu meet some problems on the road, like stupid assholes in
other cars, buses which stop everywhere on passenger demands
and pedestrians crossing streets.

Yes, I was intentionally making very conservative estimates
with the figures, also I said it was, well over £70
round here. What you said further proves my point.
