i'm very interrested as others might are how do you approach when you want to make a track?
i'll start first...
basicly i make a 4 bar loop in which i slowly build the fundation of the track.
i first make the usual beat with kicks, hats and claps then drop the bassline and listen a few times to get the feeling of the loop.
afterwards i start to add background elements pads, fills and program subtile cutups.
once the loop is done i export it to soundforge where i apply some deep compression just to see how it breathes and go back to reason where i fragment the parts which will make the essentian ingreedients of the track.

from the left!
:{P great joke, r40f...
i do them all in different ways. as differently as possible. it depends on what i'm attempting. so i can't really answer. i'm interested in reading what other people have to say, though.

well, if you're strictly making that minimal sort of stuff, it seems like there's a rather limited number of ways to do it.
i would just recommend experimenting a lot. try all sorts of different ways of creating sounds, recording them, putting them together. it's a simple thing to say and think about, but it doesn't seem to occur to many people to actually try it. just think about all the ways you can make sounds for instance - there's an unlimited number of possibilities. then add the other variables... there's just infinite permutations of creating a music composition. you just have to be willing to try what you haven't tried yet.

i try and take a different approach every time i write a track, starting with something different than the last time, often depending on my mood or what i intend to achieve. don't use a set formula every time, don't be a victim.

my friend and i are soon to start making an sample pack for future tracks.
i already did a couple of experiments with sound...writing my own waves and stuff, adding a lot of effects which is tottay cool
you kinda have that feeling of being free...haha.

in short, i couldnt definatley answer that question. one day i might tap out a good rhythm in the pub or hum a nice melody, and lay that down when i get home. the next day i might pick a key and a time sig, and program all my sampler/synth patches prior to sequencing, other days i just sorta do it all at once and in no order.

do you make music by heart or u strictly have an melody or a sound in your head which you want to make?

i mostly go by heart and instinct and emotion. i could take a more structured/formal approach in that sense i guess, as i've got a fair bit of theory knowledge, but i find that to be quite a dry way of approaching writing a track. if you've got an idea of how you want a track sounding before you start, you should use it as a template rather than set everything in stone, otherwise you give yourself no space

true...i tried to do music with an idea on my mind, but it didn't work out.
so i rather go by emotion rather than spending a whole lot of time for nothing.
ae seem to be very strict about that...then again, maybe not.

i try to write a melody. i try to accompany the melody with a different line. i add a little rythm and play around with that. make groups. add another element. toss things around a bit. add what comes to mind. i use reason 2.0, i'm not exactly a maestro but enjoy playing around.
