I'm on grade 8 piano, and can play the violin. Also I know
how to play several bizzare stringed instruments I found off
ebay.

I'm Grade 8 Piano
I can play Trumpet. I took Grade 5 last but that was 5/6
years ago.
I can play guitar to the level of Grade 0 but I know chords
and can pick out a few tunes.
I can play Recorder although I haven't since I left
Lowerschool.
I can sort of play the Organ but not very well. I can't
synchronise my feet well enough.

thing to do and i desperately need to fit in: i play
guitar, bass, used to be decent (beginner) at the drums and
keyboard... i like playing whatever instrument i can get my

When people ask I usually say 9..... proficiently..... I
play piano (classical), violin (classical), keyboards
(samples midi, etc.), drums, guitar, saxaphone, claranet,
trumpet, turntables... but I also play harmonica, tin
whistle (a recorder like woodwind), plus I make a lot of my
own samples with just about anything I can find....

although I am proficient at making interesting sounds with
traditional instruments.

I find that the pink oboe is perfectly complimented by the
belly trombone. A magnificent noise. : )

piano grades but wow, a lot of respect for you two with
grade 8!! I've been playing for 1.5 years, right now i'm

I hate learning classical music with the tutors I have,
actually. They're all arrogant pricks who laugh
condescendingly at any of the electronic music I create or
enjoy. They're happy when I spew out shitty music that
sounds identical to a generic classical/romantic composer,
though.

subject I could do well in. The choices weren't very good.

i was offered it but declined on the grounds of the work i
needed to do. i regret it to the day. this is 15 years ago.
be thankful you can do it and enjoy it at the same time for
what it is.

ok sorry about before, it was late in the day at work and i
was losing my mind just before leaving. also i don't really
hate r40f. ok maybe just a little.

i play guitar, bass, drums & percussion fluently,
synthesizer/piano, harmonica, tin whistle moderately, and i
used to play cello, euphonium (Bb), valve trombone in my
earlier years (actually until about 4 years ago).

to be honest earthleakage, I do appreciate aspects of the
course and I have gained musically from it (it makes
creating melodies and sequences in my own electronic music a
lot more fluid) but it's just the tutors narrow minded
opinions and attitudes that ruin it.

Yep, I still bear a grudge against my old music teacher and
his complete refusal to see any quality in any
electornic music. He really was one of those condesending
idiots who said, "it's all noise" not only about electronic
music, but hip hop, rock and pop. You'd hope a music teacher
would know better. *claps slowly* Way to get kids
interesting in music, call everything they like worthless
and ram classical music (and poor examples of it at that)
down their throat week after week.

remember what You said, that's important. some theory is
essential. there are always some teachers who are
narrow-minded

"We know things about music now. You find recurring themes
and you go, “Why does this seem familiar?” Then you’ll
do a bit of research and you’ll find you’ve stumbled
across what most people consider a musical rule." [Rob
Brown]
