Maybe I've been living in a cave for the last few years, and what I've noticed is well known fact. But isn't one of the main guitar riffs in Paranoid Android the same as the one used in Mission Impossible? When I pointed it out to my friends they hadn't been aware of it.
Top track anyway, my favorite by Radiohead.

if you mean the guitar riff that accompanies "kickin squealin gucci little piggy" or whatever thom is blathering on about, you're.. wrong..
the last 2 notes are of the same interval as the last 2 notes of the mission impossible riff but i mean, come on, they're completely different riffs.

I think it's a common chord thing...
like Nightmares on Wax' 70s 80s, which uses the same melody as "god save the queen (/king)," but that is on purpose, I think...

in my estimation, the two riffs sound a bit similar, but are definitely two different melodies. i always thought this was meant as an homage to the original MI riff, but that's just my interpretation.

Ah, it's a homage?
I'm talking about the riff that comes in before the first main outburst. And it's a lot more than two or three notes, it has the same tune and rythm and everything.

They are vaguely similar, but I never noticed before because the Mission Impossible guitar riff is about 6 times cheesier than the Paranoid Android one,

Hmmm, well on a live performance of Nobody Does it Better around the OK Computer time you hear Johnny pull out the MI riff during the solo. They apparently had an obsession with 007 and spy movies around that time.
However, they're not the same, and I highly doubt that it really is a reference.

if that first bit of what you said is true, wouldn't that support the theory that it is an homage/reference? because it does.

I reckon it is, and I'm not being anal or super attentive...even though the riff is mucked around with, the first few notes are identical. Anyway it doesn't matter, I was just wondering if it was common knowledge or not.

Well, although I know that at that time they had somewhat of an obsession with 007 (which is why they covered Nobody Does it Better), I have never heard any mention of them specifically mentioning this in regards to PA. They have commented on how it was based somewhat on Happiness is a Warm Gun and, structurally, Bohemian Rhapsody.
In addition, the riff really doesn't sound anything like the MI theme. Plus, although Johnny made a reference to it musically, PA was written by Thom. I wouldn't really even call it a coincidence, since they don't sound anything alike.

They're a couple of notes which are the same, The mission impossible riff I know starts a major second down from where this riff starts.
