hey all,

i am listening to "a beautiful place..." by BOC and i just
love that computerized or vocoder voice.

i think i actually like all tracks that have vocoder sounds
in it.

what do you think? what's the best vocoder-sound / song
ever?

A beautiful place is definitely the best vocoder song. (its
one of the best songs of any genre! how can it not win top
vocoder song? ;)

All Kraftwerk shit is great with vocoders. You should know
that you're german, and your pic is also very Kraftwerk-ish
:))
Cut The Midrange Drop The Bass is also cool from Cylob. But
there is definitely much more.

I think one of the more creative uses of one is in
Labradford - Gratitude.

Also Gentle People - Superstar stands out too.

But neither one is better than BoC.

There is a acapella version of Kraftwerk's "Expo 2000" with
only those wonderful vocoded voices.
I think that track clearly shows that Kraftwerk is the
masters of vocoding.

Expo 2000 has probably some of the most detailed and
excellent vocoder voices ever. As a track, Space Lab is
better imho though. Simple yet genius.

the cylob tracks you guys mentioned are not done with a

talking over them.

The Macintosh comes standard with text-to-speech software.
(At least my vintage 1995 model did). I've heard it used by
Radiohead, AFX and Cylob. I forget the name of the actual
voice, I'm sure someone here remembers. (Was it Fred?)

air's ' le soleil es de moi' or whatever is realy nice..
console's '14 zero zero' is very good..though its more of a
computer voice...
as is dmx krew's 'the glass room'
underworld's 'tongue', 'cups' and 'juanita'
are also great vocoder songs..

I've never heard more creative and awesome use of the
vocoder than on Vision Creation Newsun. I think it's like a
wah pedal and a vocoder being used together. Can't go find
the tracks right now, maybe dich em out later.

vocoder voices. then i am able to save what they said to
.wav format. so i can ad effects to them in a nother
software program. its fun. i used it on my song rectify
which can be found at www.mp3.com/aktium

Inverted Whale: yep, it's Fred. Simpletext is a cool little
program. I believe Air uses the "whisper" voice in How does
it make you feel.

You want vocoders, listen to Eiffel 65
;-)

If you want a vocoder program, check out the Cylonix
Vocoder. Pretty dope program, only problem being the .5
second lag during sound processing on all real time work.
What I do is record all my stuff to tape and then run it
thru the program and it comes out sounding all nice. If you
are looking for a VST effect, the orange vocoder (I forget
the company name, but it shouldn't be too hard to find) has
a really nice lush sound. It can make all your music sound
like it was done by the Orb :)

havent got particularly good voices.
