Maybe Autechre's music is a secret alien code language. Think about it.

its like bach he wrote songs according to formulas, my a level music exam involved using his formulas to finish incompletly scored chorals. autechre write songs (it appears) using mathmatic formulas. now thats kool n what not but hey.... fuck the numbers write the tune,
imo autechre are highly overratted i like em but i cant listen to em much and untitled is pisspoor shit compared to the older stuff.... but thats my opinion and its obvious im amongst many who dissagree so .... welll yer :)

Agreed in many ways, but I just prefer the older stuff, by the way just out of interest, what's your favourite track off Chiastic Slide?

I don't disagree! And "OK" I could agree on some levels that the recent stuff is pretentious, but I'm presuming you can't be describing the earlier stuff as pretentious too? :-/
I think this is an interesting thread...after all, opinions are what electronica's all about...oh no wait, that's football... :-)

My favorite tracks off Chiastic Slide are the first and the last. They have powerful atmospheres, great melodic ideas and nice crunchy beats.
I'm not sure about their new stull, although I always enjoy listening to Confield.
They're not pretentious really, they're just mucking about (as they keep saying in interviews) with no "higher motive" whatsoever.

fuck you confield rocks, draft rocks, stop analyzing the music and just listen to it.
confield is their best ever, no doubt about it, it has more melodies than most songs too..
calling them pretentious is also retarded, if you listen to confield enough you will find that it is in fact very emotional and they spent alot of emotional time putting it down to black and white, pretentious would be if they were trying to sound intellectual and all that shit, but they're not.
autechre are the only ones who make this type of music which i enjoy so much, im sorry you dont get it.
when i first heard uviol, pen expers, i remember it was back in 2001 and i had bought the album cause the clerk recommended it to me, and i remember playing it really loud all night, i had never heard anything like it.
so STOP analyzing and just listen, if its not your cup of tea, fine, but dont come analyzing it trying to sound like you know what the fuck you're talking about, at least listen to it enough so that you have a right to dismiss it/call it pretentious.

Not sure who that's a reply to, but if it's to my good self, I'd mention that it's not that we (or I at least) "don't get it", but more that I prefer older Autechre to newer...
And how can you listen to music without analysing it????
