Amen

The amen break is like a drug to me, I never get sick of
it, so I was thinking of doing a compilation CD of tracks
that feature the amen break. But bugger me if I can't think
of that many. I'm putting on NWA's Straight Outta Compton,
Squarepusher's Come on My Selector and I Wish You Could Talk
but I can't think of many others of the top of my head, I'm
sure there are dozens of Snares tracks but blow me down if I
could remember them.

A little help here?

ah, Mangle 11, yeah. I knew there was a track on Chocolate
Wheelchair but I couldn't remember which one.
Thanks.
I should probably have posted this when the boards a bit
busier but never mind.

venetian snares' "öngyilkos vasárnap" has it in a rather
tasteful fashion, and is a brilliant track.

Amon Tobin - Chomp Samba
Squarepusher's Venus No.17 (Acid Mix); Tomorrow World
VSnares - Herbie Goes Ballistic
Gridlock - Caloc (Weatheredstoner has already mentioned this

there's a very interesting use of the amen break)

Tear by Skeptic is one that was staring me in the face, its
on my winamp playlist.

There are loads that are more subtle, lots of Snares stuff
is the amen break chopped up beyond recognition.

I was listening to Pissed Up in SE1 by AFX and I can almost
hear an amen-like structure in the drum programming, which
seems silly for such a slow track non-drummy type track but
if you listen carefully you might hear it.

It's just another instrument..

That is like saying, regarding rock and roll music, "why use
electric guitar and not electric lute or harp?"

Not really, it's a sample. The sampler would be an
instrument, and it's always better to use instruments in
more original ways. I'm not sure what I'm trying to say.

but in the context of sample-based music i am considering
the amen to be an instrument (normally I wouldn't, but
thousands and thousands of songs use it).

I don't know what i am trying to say either, lets get out of
here.
