I'm against abortion.

offline CS2x from London (United Kingdom) on 2005-04-12 09:04 [#01562421]

I am drunk and this is NOT religiously based. I want to
rant and to start an argument. Thankyou.

What gives one human being a right to take another's life? I
couldn't care less if it is the mother or not. It's life.
Killing life is murder, and nobody has a right to "choose"
to murder somebody else.

Sure, that life may not be particularly self aware of
rational at that stage. But it is in a constant state of
flux, moving towards higher levels of rationality and
self-awareness.

If you are going to argue that killing an unborn baby is
fine because of its lack of rationality or sense of
awareness (and those are strict conditions, with no others)
then I could take that and use it to justify killing any
human being (not matter what the age) which lacks in those
areas. You could kill an adult in coma, for example-they are
not exhibiting signs of being self-aware, or rational, or
particularly sentient, are they? BUT, they have the
POTENTIAL to be (and will be, providing the accident isn't
too deadly) once the ordeal is over. An unborn baby will
(providing something doesn't go wrong) also become a more
obviously rational human being also.

I know you are all mostly pro abortion so try and debate
without getting increadably angry and rude and insulting
(which people here, including myself, seem to enjoy doing a
lot. )

Lalala.

As soon as you start placing conditions on what makes life
"valid", you go on a slippery slope downwards into a grey
area void of definities. It is not "primitive" to be against
abortion, it is merely setting down that human life has
intrinsic worth, and stating that another human being has no
right to end life just because at the specific point in time
it lacks certain qualities (such as rationality or self
awareness.)

What if you've been raped and are carrying a rapists baby?

I think it's up to women to decide, not teenage boys.

What if you've been raped? Well, I am not making this from a
judgemental position, or from a position of saying "this is
what x should do" in a situation. If a raped woman aborts
her baby, I can completely understand that course of action
within the circumstances (and I would probably do the same
thing.)

What I would do, however, does not change the fact that
aborting a baby is wrong. It's just what I (and many woman,
understandably) would do.

When my first girlfriend got pregnant, she ended up deciding
not to keep it, even through my tears. I cried endlessly,
and when she and her mum threw me out of their house saying
what you just said (minus the teenage bit) it upset me.

Of course it's in her body, but goddam that was also my
little 'n in there.
I understand if a women gets raped or for other reasons ,
and i feel it should be allowed.. but there's also another
side wich i find dark, women who don't take their
responsabilities and abort 3 times a year, yet who are
probably against the death penalty. There should be a line
somewhere, protection for a start..

"oh, i'm pregnant what a surprise that was, didn't notice i
was being shagged"

'I know you are all mostly pro abortion'

rule of life #1: never assume anything.

as for abortion, is it fair to bring up a child that is
unwanted/unloved/living in povertyy/abused/whatever
circumstance just because abortion wasn't an option?

why are the people who speak out against abortion almost
always men?

offline CS2x from London (United Kingdom) on 2005-04-12 09:21 [#01562455]
Points: 5079 Status: Lurker

I'll repeat: this isn't from a judgemental or even from a
practical ethical perspective, more just in the realms of
"right" and "wrong".

Lots of women speak out against abortion.

And also, can people who are pro abortion stop the insults
and actually offer some reasoned arguments.

I had a shit start to my life, my teens were dramatic and
today i'm a mess. But i'm glad my disfunctional parents
didn't opt for abortion, even though i wasn't really brought
up by them.

qrter, i'm ot sure that's the case, unless you mean in
politics...in wich case it's not a surprise.

Yeah it is. You're trying to dictate what other people can
and can't do. Shut your fucking face. A fetus is a fetus,
it's like a fish or a dog. People are animals. In ancient
greece, if a baby was born deformed or something, they put
it on a goddammned mountain and let the GODS decide. That's
how it should be.

offline CS2x from London (United Kingdom) on 2005-04-12 09:25 [#01562468]

mappatazee, you:
a) haven't actually read anything I have said beyond "I am
against abortion"-otherwise you would have actually noticed
that I am not dictating this in a PRACTICAL sense at all.

b) being insulting to cover the fact up that you haven't
presented an argument yet.

Argument for what? So what if something is potentially
sentient. The sperms in my balls are potentially sentient
if they meet up with an egg in some unfortunate girls
falopian tubes, just like a fetus is potentially sentient as
long as it isn't ripped out of the uterus or whatever that
sack is it feeds off of like a parasite. God.

I know what you mean old boy, and that episode sounds rather

Young Ones book "Batchelor Boys", studies have proven a link
between banging away like a policeman and pregnancy.

i don't like abortion, but i can't pretend to know what it
would be like to have an unwanted pregnancy. desperate
women will get abortions whether it is legal or not. i
would hope a woman would decide to keep the baby, but
ultimately i believe it is her choice to make, not mine, and
certainly not the government's or some uber-conservative
right-wing wacko.

Well I am the same.

I disagree with it and don't think it's anybody's choice who
lives or dies, but I am not going to force my opinion on
anyone.

This thread was for discussion. But highly predictably,
people assumed I was preaching and ignored my constant
affirmations that this is in the philosophical realm rather
than the practical and just resorted to wonderously original
insults.
