"now in the days of dsp, suppatrigga and other effect
stuff
it's kinda difficult to say really if somethinf is complex
or not...

then there's the factor of randomisation - some effects can
be made easily with this - for exmaple some fucked up
beats..."

i agree. there is no substitute for simply great
songwriting. a good song is a good song, complex or not.
see Boards of Canada for many many examples.

ive neevr been good at useing dsp so i dont bother i just
fuck with stuff! my comp used to be alot slower so it
couldnt handle good dsp effects

yeah, i only recently got a computer that is capable of all
the real time digital fuckery. in a way it's cool. things
that used to take me hours to do, i can do in only a few
minutes. but in a way, it's more frustrating because i
don't want it to sound like i'm just using effects. again
it comes back to composition. if you make a good track, its
good, whether it took you 5 minutes or 5 days to program the
beat or something. i feel like now i can spend more time on
writing a good song instead of tedious tweakery. of course,
in reality, i still spend 5 days on those beats, i just use
different tools. i guess it's a lose lose situation!

yer i dunno theres something unsatisfyinga bout having a vst
do the work for you. that he's lookin at me one i posted is
prolly a shit song but i know how complex that beat was to
programme in especially as im shit using piano roll type
edtors but i sat downa nd worked my arse off on it and at
the end i had a song i enjoyed writting and am really proud
of but yer its funny my best song (at least the one i think
is my best) is really simple its just two layers of me
playing guitar and heart beat but i love it im proud as
hell even though its not complex at all

have a listen
